49: Your Special Day

My warm, morning hand caresses his soft, rosy cheek.
I watch as his eyelids unflutter, dark pupils looking up into mine.
A deep groan escapes his exhausted windpipe.
"Get up, sleepy head." I hum, leaning my face down into his neck.
"Y/n-" he softly moans, "I'm sleepy."
"Guess what today is." I cheer.
I sit myself up onto his lap.
"My birthay." He says in a sarcastic tone.
My eyes roll back.
"I guess I'll just have to eat your homemade waffles by myself then."
He lifts his head up from the pillow.
"You made me waffles?" He wimpers.
I chuckle and pull him in for a tender, loving kiss.
"Ew, I'll get them once you brush your teeth." I tease.
My legs leap from the bed as I make my way into the kitchen.
One small cut slice of butter and a fine layer of syrup coating the fluffy waffles.
On top, I fine spray of whipped cream. I pinch my fingers around a small strawberry and add it to the top of the four stack for a final finish.
Shawn stumbles his half awake self into the room, fists rubbing his eyes.
I place the plate onto our kitchen counter.
"They look- wow." He gasps.
I laugh, "Damn, find you a man who looks at you the way Shawn looks at his food."
A smile spreads across his face as he takes a seat.
"Happy birthday to you-" I start humming.
"Stop-" he whimpers, "too early."
I dramatically groan, "You're no fun."
His head turns towards me at the speed of light. I watch him dip his pointer finger into the small mountain of whipped cream.
Before I could pull away, he dotted it on the tip of my nose.
"Just when I thought you couldn't get any sweeter." He giggles.
I lean in, sharing a long butterfly kiss. Allowing the whipped cream to coat his grinning face.
I pull away with a small laugh.
"So, what does Shawn want to do for his big day?"
His eyes dart towards the can of whipped cream.. and then back at me.
"Whipped cream war?" I ask.
"You read my mind, baby."
