You know that you turned off the lights when you left your apartment that evening. But, as you open the door to your apartment, the light spilled out through the crack in the door. Your heart began to pound and your hands turn clammy at the thought that someone might be robbing your place in the middle of the night. You carefully open the door wider, making sure that it doesn't make a sound as you go into your place. You stand there for a solid minute listening for any sound to indicate where the perpetrator was, but there was none.
Not really sure what you were doing you grab the closest thing to you that you could protect yourself with, a broken umbrella. I really don't think this is a good idea, you thought to yourself as you held the umbrella tighter bringing it closer to you.
You don't bother to take off your shoes, if the thief had a weapon you needed to run out of your place as fast as possible. As you step slowly through the threshold to go to the living room, you see your cat scurry out of the living room causing you to stop in your tracks. It took you a whole minute to gather your wits back together and continue. You were about to go around the corner to the living room when you hear a faint snoring. You stop again and lower your umbrella as you try to confirm the noise you heard.
You take a peek around the corner to see who was snoring in your living room only to end up smiling softly at the familiar figure you saw. You breathe a sigh of relief and let out a quiet laugh to yourself. After quickly running back to the front to return the umbrella and take off your shoes, you make your way back to the living room as quiet as you could.
All your worries and anxiety melted away as you watch him. He sat on the floor as he leaned over the wooden tea table with his laptop turned off and pushed away from him. It was clear that he was working on his songs before he fell asleep with his arms crossed in front of him to support his head on the table.
Feeling bad that he might feel cold when he wakes up in the morning, you reach for the throw blanket that had fallen behind the couch. You carefully place the blanket on his shoulders making sure that he doesn't wake up. He stirs a bit causing you to freeze, but he was still fast asleep. You whisper a quiet apology as you continue to adjust the blanket to cover him completely. Then, you close the laptop in front of him and move it out of his way to make sure that he won't knock it over in the morning.
You smile to yourself as you look at him again. There he was, the man who never slept, snoring away as his back rose up and down slowly without a worry in the world. You bend down and give him a quick peck on his cheek as you look at his sleeping face.
"Sleep tight, Chan," you whisper softly.
