I woke up in the morning to see my fiance, Brian, had already gotten out of bed. He was always awake before I was, but this time I wasn't sure he actually slept. Our mothers wanted to do some wedding planning with us at lunch today and I think Brian was a little nervous about it. He was excited about the wedding, but our mothers were not exactly best friends and having them together made Brian nervous. Brian walked into our bedroom with a tray of food. Ever since we got engaged he's been so sweet. He was always spoiling me. Every Sunday he made me breakfast in bed, despite me constantly telling him it was not necessary. Brain placed the tray over my lap and smiled.
"Honey, this is very sweet," I said. "But really not necessary." I sat up and suddenly felt lightheaded.
"Are you alright, Bella?" Brian asked.
"I don't feel so good," I said. "My head hurts, my throat is sore and I'm all stuffed up." Brian put his hand on my forehead and looked at me concerned.
"You're warm," Brian said. "Stay here, I'm going to get the thermometer." Brian was back in a few seconds with the first aid kit. He pulled out the thermometer and softly grabbed my chin. "Open," he said. I opened my mouth and he put the thermometer under my tongue. After a few minutes, it beeped and Brain took it out of my mouth. "Oh honey, you have a fever," he said.
"Oh, that's too bad," I said. "Well, we better get ready." I tried to get up, but Brian stopped me.
"Where do you think you're going, babygirl?" He said.
"We have lunch with our moms," I said. "We have to get ready to go."
"Bella you have a fever," Brian said. "You're not leaving this bed, let alone this house. I'll just have to tell our mothers we can't make it."
"But Brian-"
"No arguing," he interrupted. "You're staying here and letting me take care of you, you need to rest." I lied back down in bed. Brian was such a caretaker and I didn't have the energy to argue with him. Brian picked up the tray with my breakfast on it. "This food is way too heavy for someone who's sick," he said. "I'm going to get you some toast and some hot tea. Stay here." I sighed and lied back down in bed while Brian went downstairs. He came back with two pieces of dry toast and some hot tea.
"I'm not really that hungry," I said. "My stomach hurts."
"You need to eat something," he said. He held a piece of toast up to my mouth and I took a small bite. I took a sip of my tea after and Brian smiled, satisfied that I was actually eating. I took a couple more bites before Brian moved the food to the dresser away from me. "Do you need anything else, my love?" He asked.
"I'm ok right now," I said. "Maybe you can just lie here with me." Brian smiled and climbed into bed with me. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. I was watching with him for a while when I suddenly felt sick. I got up and ran to the bathroom, making it just it time. Brian came up behind me and held my hair back while rubbing my back. I stood up after a few minutes and Brian grabbed a tissue, wiping my face for me.
"Are you alright, darling?" He asked. I nodded.
"I am now," I said. "I'm really tired though."
"We should get you back to bed," he said. I nodded and Brian picked me up carefully and carried me back into our bedroom. He placed me on our bed carefully and covered me with a fluffy blanket. After I was all tucked into bed, he climbed in with me and I snuggled into his chest. He kissed my forehead and softly stroked my hair. "You're still warm, Bella," he said. "Get some rest, it'll make you feel better." I nodded in agreement and closed my eyes while Brian softly scratched my back. The knowledge that I was marrying such a caring and kind man made me feel happy and relaxed.
"Brian," I said. "I love you."
"I love you too Bella," he whispered back. "I can't wait to make you mine, forever." I smiled and snuggled back into his chest, slowly falling asleep.
