As the whole class followed Ben out of the classroom and next door to the barn. My hazel eyes scanned the old barn. It smelled of paint, meaning they've painted it recently. The red paint wasn't chipped anymore, which gave it a new look. A smile crossed my face as we entered the barn. The horses that belonged to everyone was in there. Names were printed above the stalls that belonged to the horses.
"Here's Kink." Ben's voice rang loudly throughout the barn. We all turned our heads to look at him. He was standing in front of one of the stalls. The name Kink was written above the door of that stall. A sleek black horse moved toward the door at the sound of his name. I made my way through the crowd to get closer to the horse. Feeling a little ashamed of leaving two of my best friends behind, Kink turned his head and looked at me. His eyes blinked at me a few times before looking back at Ben. "Hey Be- I mean Mr. Booker." My voice stuttered.
Ben looked at me and smiled softly. "Yes Anna?"
"When do we get to get our horses?" I asked, fiddling with my hair and looking down so I didn't make eye contact.
"When your horse knows you're ready." He said, I could sense the awkwardness.
"How do you know which horse is yours?" A small girl, Hannah, asked. She smiled a flirty smile.
"The horse picks you, not the other way around." Trey answered her, not even looking at the girl. This made me laugh softly, my eyes going back to Ben.
"Correct, Trey. The horse does pick you. So the plan is, we're all going to the pasture with the wild horses." Ben licked his chapped lips and looked around at his class.
