"You're joking me right? How does that even happen?!" I threw myself towards the Tv for what felt like the hundredth time, only to get the same exact results the ninety nine other times.
"Will you calm down? It's probably just the wifi." Dad said from the couch pushing handfuls of popcorn in his mouth.
"It's been doing this for like half an hour!"
"Why don't you just sit down and let it load?" He offered between chomps.
"No, see, if you didn't rely on this dumbass cable Tv then we could be watching Halloween over three days ago!"
"Mar,"
"Dad." I mimicked i a high pitched tone.
"Relax." His brows rose and he stood from the couch bowl he had made for himself and disconnected a few of the wires to plug the VHS player in. Then, proceeded to walk all the way up the stairs, come back down, and play Halloween in himself.
"God." I scoffed loudly against the back of the couch.
He dipped back into the cushion, causing me to fall against him. But he didn't seem to mind much, and wrapped his arm around me to let me fall against his leg and the pillow that not only separated us but supported my head.
"Hey, um, I never got to ask you this... But uh, did you really help Ethan with his tie before homecoming?" I asked, tilting my head up to catch him scratching away at his stubble.
"Well yeah, I couldn't let him going out looking like that. You should have seen it before I fixed it. That boy was looking like a whole fool." He trailed off, shoving more popcorn into his mouth, and as you guessed, missing almost entirely and causing almost all of it to fall onto my face.
"Ugh- Dad!" I flinched quickly to stop the kernels from placing themselves into my tear ducts.
"Whoops." Dad chuckled dryly.
"Dad, you do realize his Dad isn't really around, right?" With sincerity, I watched him play some more with the short dark hair coming in from his chin.
"Yeah. I know hon. No wonder he's such a mama's boy. Nice manors, respectful, shy. The whole bundle package." He laughed. "No wonder why he had his tie all fucked up..."
"Watch, I'm gonna have to show him how to shave and change a tire." Nudging at my arm, he continued. "Just like I did with you. Although, I wasn't expecting to help you with the whole period thing."
"You did fine Dad."
"I still don't remember why you never let me show you how tampons work... Like, I didn't want you doing it wrong you know."
"Dad! I was fourteen! It was embarrassing enough still wearing pads almost half way through freshman year!"
"Alright, alright."
The opening scene to something that didn't look anything like Halloween played loud on the flatscreen, catching both Dads' and my attention as we both watched confused.
"Are you sure you put in Halloween?" I asked.
He scoffed loudly, standing up to eject the VHS from the player.
"It said Halloween number one on the cover!"
And just as he reached the player to press the button, a large close up clip started to play as it panned over to me trotting along with a bright orange plastic Jack-O-Lantern bucket holding onto my moms hand lightly.
