Seconds after watching the release of the twin, Jonas felt a rippling sensation inside himself, the feeling of terrible pain clawing its way forward to emerge in a cry, and he did. He cried, and begged the Giver to let him stay. The Giver did, and he slowly calmed down. He apologised for his behaviour, and they continued their session.
For the next few months leading up to the December, Jonas repeated the routine that he was now accustomed to. Each day the Giver gave him more difficult memories than the last, always ending the session with a cheerful memory as he had always done. Each day, he had taken to mostly ignoring Father without being disrespectful. He had still not recovered from the shock of watching his father kill someone. He was not a disrespectful person, and as much as he wanted to just outright ignore him, he knew that he would not have the heart to do it to the person who raised him.
When December had finally come, he watched proudly from his spot in the audience as Lily wheeled her shiny new bicycle onto the stage. When he returned to the Annexe room the next day, he was promptly informed by the Giver that Gabriel had been release the previous day, and that he could watch if he wanted to. He politely refused, and they continued the session.
Years later when Jonas had completed his training, he moved in to the Annexe room while the Giver took up residence in the House of the Old. Jonas visited him sometimes, to chat about old times and receives some advice from him and when the time comes for the Giver to be released, Jonas was there to see him to see him for the last time.
