Love Through Growth Through Pain

This poem was inspired by the beauty of the complex structure of the human being and her relationships. It was the result of thinking outside the typical cycle of pain being an end and how meeting someone who understands what you're going through can change the way you view the events of your life. Enjoy.

She's always been complicated—
Hard to understand,
Difficult to live with.

She's been fiery,
But ice.
Naughty,
But nice.

Paradoxical, she's been.
Satirical, she's seen.

But never has she come across
Another soul who has suffered loss.

Never has she laughed away
A night that has gone astray.

Until You.

You came along
With a light in your eyes,
Excitement in your voice,
And acceptance in your smile.

And she saw.

She saw for the first time a soul who has suffered loss.

She saw a soul appreciative of what they've got.

And because of you,
She knew.

She knew that loss was sometimes a gain.
That loss teaches you pain.

And pain?

She found out that going through pain is not always a loss.
Because when you heal, you grow.

And growth?

Growth is how you become better than you were before.

So she thanked.

She thanked you for bringing her joy.
She thanked you for teaching her freedom.
She thanked you for being
you.

And she thanked the stars
For they sent you to her.

But what she stayed most thankful for
Was you for seeing her truth.

For all the people she knew before
Saw nothing but a shade of her
Drawn from assumptions and rumors.
Lies and allegations.

You saw the colors
behind her black and white façade.
You saw the light
In her ever frowning eyes.
And, for once, she smiled
Genuinely at last.
