Elizabeth woke up because she felt like someone was watching her. She looked around the room and found Spiderman sitting at the foot of her bed, petting her dog. It was weird that Luna hadn't barked when he came in. She quickly sat up and glared at him. "What are you doing in here?"
Spiderman played with a piece of fabric on his suit and said, "Mr. Stark told me to get you ready for training."
Elizabeth thought for a moment. There was an alarm clock on her bedside table that read 4:15. "Why would I have training this early in the morning?"
"We-I mean-you have school today." Spiderman definitely looked uncomfortable.
Elizabeth groaned. She did not want to go to school. "Get out."
"What?"
"I'm going to need to get ready to train so I need you to get out." Elizabeth was already cranky for not getting enough sleep and now she was a little irritated that Spiderman was watching her sleep.
"Okay." Spiderman left the room.
Elizabeth instantly felt bad but didn't let it get to her. She got out of bed and did her morning routine in the bathroom. She then went to the closet and picked out some army green athletic leggings and a white athletic t shirt. She made sure that the sleeves were long so that it would cover the gashes on her forearms.
When she was done, she put the leash on Luna and walked out of her room. Waiting for her in the hallway was Spiderman. She smiled at him to show that she was sorry.
Her emotions had been so up and down lately, Elizabeth had no idea what to think. Maybe it was the stress that she was given abilities or that she was being hunted down by a psychopath. Whatever it was, it was affecting her mind and causing her to act different. She could feel it inside her. She just had no idea what it was.
Elizabeth had planned on walking Luna outside before she went to training. The elevator took them to the ground level where there was a little courtyard in the middle of the building. Apparently, she wasn't allowed to go anywhere without one of the avengers walking with her. She wasn't allowed to go outside period.
They walked Luna around for about ten minutes before they decided they better go to the training room. The entire time they were silent. Elizabeth had too much on her mind to be friendly and now she took whatever time she had to try to figure her life out.
When they finally reached the training room all of the other avenger were there. "Great," Elizabeth thought. "I have an audience seeing me make fun of myself."
"It took you long enough." Tony Stark said.
"Sorry, I had to take Luna out."
"Why is the dog here?" This time it was Thor who spoke.
Elizabeth made eye contact with him. "She is here because she is the only one in this room that I trust. I just met most of you and while you seem like okay people, I also know that you can each be violent. Until I know that I am safe Luna goes with me." Elizabeth's emotions were acting up again.
"She's got a point," Steve said.
Tony Stark shook his head. "This is ridiculous. The whole reason you're here in the first place is so that we can protect from whoever keeps attacking you."
"Is it," Elizabeth said, "or is it because you want to run more tests on me because you know something that has to do with why the Green man wanted me in the first place." Elizabeth was trying to control herself but Tony's anger was feeding her own. She had no idea what was happening to her.
Tony wouldn't meet her eyes. "Can we jut start your training?" Elizabeth got the feeling that Tony hadn't been shown up in a long time.
"Gladly," Elizabeth replied. She was done arguing. She didn't know why she had been so irritated all of a sudden.
Steve and Natasha showed Elizabeth some of the basic offensive and defensive steps before she actually got to fight. It had been decided that she would duel Clint first.
"Okay Libby, you have this. Stay on your feet and keep your eyes on him the entire time. I know that your left side and arm are hurt so face him on the right side. Go for any weak areas you see." Steve patted her shoulder and pushed her onto one of the mats. She smiled at the nickname she was given. Steve was definitely her favorite so far.
Elizabeth put her right hand up in front of her face. Her left arm had been taped to her side to prevent further injury. To her, it seemed as though not having her left arm would just subject her to her right side getting hurt.
They circled each other for a while before Clint came rushing at her. She tried to dodge him, and for the most part she did, but he brushed by her left side. Elizabeth winced and turned around to face him. He swung at her, which she managed to dodge. She tried to punch him but her arm had no power. He easily caught her arm and twisted it behind her back. Elizabeth whimpered and tried to twist out of it. When she realized she couldn't she dropped to the ground. The dead weight made Clint release her arm. she quickly got back up but got hit in the stomach with Clint's fist.
She fell and Clint kicked her in the stomach. Pain raced throughout her body but she managed to push it aside. She got up and faced Clint. she could tell that he felt bad for hurting her. She mouthed, "It's okay. I'm fine."
He nodded. He came at her again, this time she was too slow to dodge it. They both went to the ground. Elizabeth had the wind knocked out of her. Her left side was killing her. She wasn't going to give up though. She tried to get up again but she was exhausted and only had one arm.
Elizabeth was extremely frustrated with herself. Why wouldn't her body cooperate with her? She let out a scream of annoyance. She wanted this fight to be over with. She wanted Clint to be the one hurting instead of her.
In a way, that's exactly what happened.
