I woke up the next day confused. What was my father doing with a shovel and a dead body? I went downstairs to the kitchen and saw a note on the table. "Hey, Addie I'm not going to be at the cabin for a couple of hours. Something came up and I had to handle it. See you later." -Dad
I went upstairs and decided to listen to the tape that I found. As I was listening I heard someone in the background say "You'll never get to see your daughter ever again." I expected more, but the tape stopped. I didn't know what to think. What did the person mean by saying that? I put the tape back under my pillow and went downstairs to explore.
In the evening I saw my father's car come up the driveway. I went into the kitchen and started cooking dinner. "Hey, Addie." He said. "Hey Dad, I'm cooking pasta." I said. "Smells good." He said. I finished cooking and we sat down to eat. "So what did you do today?" I asked. "Oh, um... I had to help one of my old friends." He said. I didn't want to sound suspicious so I didn't ask about last night. We sat in silence for a little while. I decided to talk about the big elephant in the room. "Dad, why don't you like talking about mom?" I asked. He looked up at me for a second and said: "Because she's dead." I got up from the table and put my plate in the sink. I walked past him and went outside. I started walking and went to a special spot. It has a view of the mountains and the night sky. I stayed there for about 2 hours and then decided to go back to the cabin.
*Later that night*
I stayed up so I could see if my father does anything unusual. At 1:00 am I could see my father outside digging a hole. He just kept digging, digging, and digging. I think I fell asleep because when I looked out my window the hole that he had dug was covered. I heard footsteps coming from outside my bedroom. I quickly got under my covers and closed my eyes. Someone opened my bedroom door, looked inside, and closed my door. I must have fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes it was bright. I got out of bed and went downstairs. "Hey, dad. I'm going out for a while." I said. "Alright." He said. I went to the backside of the cabin. I looked for the dirt that my father dug last night. I looked for a while and when I thought I couldn't find anything, I came upon this spot where it looked unkempt. I found a shovel and started digging. I stopped when I felt something in the dirt. I pushed the remaining dirt out of the way and found what looked like a decaying body. I dropped the shovel and ran. I just kept running. I didn't know where I was going to go, but somewhere far away from here.
