Chapter Seventeen - "We'll run away together!"

I smiled genuinely this time. I didn't know how I'd do it, but I'd fix this boy. I don't know what possessed me to decide that I would do so, but I was determined. After all, I was incredibly stubborn and I hated giving up. When everyone else had given up on him, I would be the one to change it around.

The thought warmed my heart. "There we go! I don't know how I'll do it, but I'll help you Liam." I said with a confirming nod. I then reached out and put my hands on his shoulders, looking deeply into his eyes to show him that I was serious. "We'll help each other."

Liam smiled weakly. "I guess so. But what are we going to do? I don't want to go home to another beating. And I don't supposed you want to go home to be called a mistake." 

I shook my head. "No, I don't." I replied, my heart sinking. What were we going to do? We couldn't go to our homes. We couldn't go to anybody else. "We'll run away together!" I announced after a moment.

He looked at me like I had six heads. "What the bloody hell are you talking about?" 

I grinned wildly, forming a plan out in my head. I bounced on my toes excitedly, explaining it all out with animated hand gestures which clearly showed my excitement. "We can run away! We'll still go to school and all, but we could go stay in a hotel or something together. I've got a job, I can pay for it! And then we'll never have to go back to those people who keep cutting us down!"

He sighed and just shook his head. His brown eyes were dull. Clearly he wasn't as excited as me. "Niall, we can't do that. We're two teenagers - we can't just go stay in a hotel. What are we going to do for food?"

"I told you - I have a job."

"We can't just run away." he said, shaking his head again. "Our parents would find us and force us to come back."

I folded my arms across my chest, frowning. Well, there goes that plan. Why couldn't he just go with it? Why couldn't he just take the risk? Too cautious. Too serious. Too responsible. And yet, I still wanted dearly to help him. I needed help myself, and hopefully he could provide that. "What do you think we should do, then?"
