-- Niall's POV --

"No problem." I replied. I felt lighter than air. Finally I could escape the torture of dealing with a family who never wanted me and never cared. It was almost amusing that I was running away with my ex-nemesis, but I was happy that we were friends again. "If your dad comes for you, I'll protect you. I know that I'm about as terrifying as a baby penguin, but I'll try."

Liam laughed quietly. It was good to hear him happy again. The rain was coming down harder now and he turned away from where he had been heading, walking in the opposite direction. I followed right by his side. "So first we've got to find a hotel to stay at."

I nodded. "Somewhere nice, but not too expensive."

We walked into the part of town with all the buildings and came upon a big hotel. I didn't even stop to look at the name of it. I just grabbed Liam's wrist and pulled him into it. At the check-in counter, I hit the bell. The man at the desk didn't turn around, so I continuously hit it over and over again - causing Liam to chuckle in amusement - until he did. I smiled innocently. "How much for a room for two?"

The man looked at us curiously, raising one eyebrow. He seemed to size us both up for moment, then cleared his throat and shot out some prices. We picked a room that he told us was large and quite nice, but still cheap, and both pitched in to pay.

I grinned and nudged Liam as we walked up the stairs, searching for our room. "We're really doing it, huh? Really running away." I said excitedly, marvelling at the thought. I'd wanted to run away for so many years and now I was finally doing it.

He grinned back. "Yeah. Yeah we are."

We eventually found our hotel room and unlocked the door. The man was right - it was a spatious room, with two dark red beds on each side. I was surprised at how nice the room was, since it wasn't very expensive. A flat-screen TV sat in the front of the room, and there was a bathroom off to the side. The walls were a nice, medium brown colour. This really was a quality hotel. It was nothing like those hotels that you read about people staying in - there was no chipped paint or dirty furniture or broken appliances. It was all quite modern and lovely. I whistled through my teeth.

"Wow." he said, awed. "This is much better than staying at home."

I frowned as I realized something. We'd have to go home. To get clothes and other belongings we'd need. I decided to mention that to Liam later. I smiled. "Yeah. How 'bout we go get some food? I'm starving!"
