ALEXEI POV

Operation No Aura
August 15, 2043 (Remnant Time)
12:43 PM
[REDACTED] a.k.a. Alexei Borodin

The elevator doors opened. Unsuspecting civilians all around, a couple of cops just in case. We checked one last time, and then opened fire. People screaming, chaos all around, the police attempting to stop us. It didn't matter. They didn't have enough Aura to protect them in the first place.

We kept shooting and shooting, it was, what do you call it, American? Nobody survived our bullets. Suddenly we heard a Bullhead arrive.

"VPN." (Vacuo Protection Network. It's basically the Remnant version of America's FBI SWAT)

We shot at everyone and everything. I'll give it to the VPN, they tried. But they couldn't stop us. More and more unloaded from trucks but were stopped by our never-ending bullets. Petrenko said three words.

"Check your ammo."

We all reloaded and were making small talk, like how this one guy, Senaviev, had waited a long time to do this, and how another, Streicher, said it felt like a hunting trip. We busted down the doors and began shooting again. At some point they came with riot shields, nothing grenades couldn't handle. We were almost done. I was having doubts at this point, I didn't think this mission would be this batshit crazy. I mean killing isn't great in general but an unarmed group of civilians? Just how far are these people willing to go? Thank Oum this mission is almost over. We just have to get to that ambulance.

Current Objective: Get to the ambulance

We made our way. Apparently these guys were real happy. They killed a guy named Nomad and he must've had a big role in this war. I was about to get on the ambulance but then the leader said something.

Petrenko: That was no message. This was a message.

He shot me. I fell, dying in a pool of my own blood. I could hear him through the comms as Vacuo soldiers came over to my body.

"The Atlesian thought he could deceive us...but know this...when they find that body, all of Remnant will cry for war."

WINTER POV

Shit. They found out about [REDACTED]. I need to see the news. They'll have something to say on this.

"...It was confirmed that the body was none other than Zachary Williams, an elite Atlesian specialist known for not having an Aura. In a shocking manner, both sides of the Vacuo Civil War have settled their differences in the aftermath this horrendous attack and joined forces with the Wolves in their campaign against Atlas. Mistral has no say in this yet, but rumors are spreading of boycotted Atlas products. Stay tuned for more."

Now I see the tactical genius of this. The Inner Circle knew the whole time but chose not to do anything, knowing that killing Zachary at the end would let Vacuo confirm his identity and turn against us. We are now alone in this conflict and there was nothing we could do about it. The best thing we could do now was hope, but at this point even that was useless. Just what are you planning?

MENAGERIE
Ranger POV

Well, we were on the way to have a meeting with the White Fang. If we were gonna tear Atlas down, they cannot have any allies in the war. I was currently on a Black Hawk with three other Wolves waiting for my orders. I set up a carpet bombing run nearby to distract Atlas and to buy us time for the meeting.

"Unknown aircraft, identify yourself!"

Heh. Insolent dog.

"This is Sierra-Zulu Two One Niner, requesting access to Landing Pad Nine."

"Confirmed, escort ship inbound."

"Negative. Making our way now."

Finally! I got off the helicopter and made my way to two White Fang grunts. My men regarded them with no hostility, but they definitely resented us being here.

"This way, human."

He spat out the words with venom. This meeting would end in a simple brawl if we were lucky. We don't have the manpower to fight on two fronts. We got to a building, the largest one. Must be the building the meeting is at.

"Greetings, Lieutenant Colonel Walker."

"Chieftain Belladonna. High Leader Khan. I come with a simple request. Let us join forces. Assist us and we will assist you."

Saying that they were skeptical was an understatement. Finally Sienna Khan spoke up.

"And why should we trust you, a human?"

I smirked, but there was no way she could see that thanks to my mask.

"Well, you see, there's something we both have in common. We both want to see Atlas burn. Me, to show that we are no pushovers. You, as revenge for all the crimes that Atlas has committed against your people. I certainly wouldn't see you as my equal in terms of combat but I see you as an equal everywhere else. Most importantly, I respect you."

Now, they were taken aback. Ghira nodded at me, as if to say 'keep going.' I smirked once again and continued my speech.

"Now, you might be wondering, *in mocking tone* 'oh why, does this human scum respect us?' Well you saw initiative, correct? And you seized that initiative. I respect that. Most of my men do. While I wouldn't agree that violence is the best method to solve your problems, I will say that you found a solution that brought results and you weren't afraid of its consequences. What do you say? Help me make Atlas burn with the bodies of their corrupt men, or stand back, and stay in the shadows once more?"

I looked around. I hooked most of the White Fang and hell, even some of the civilians who came to watch. This was easier than I thought. Finally, they nodded. It worked. We had another ally in this fight. Unfortunately, I had lost some. Flytrap had convinced some of my Wolves this was not the good fight. I couldn't believe it. One of my Lieutenants, one of the men I trusted with my life, betrayed me. I had stop this. Quick. I nodded at my men. This meeting was over. We got on the Black Hawk and got back to base.

TIMESKIP

"Flytrap."

He looked at me. I noticed about five Wolves subtly moved towards me.

"Yeah, mate?"

I looked at him.

"I know what you did. My friend. My ally. My betrayer. Your deed will not go unpunished."

"Mate, you're going down the wrong path. Don't let it consume you, like it did to Walker."

I snapped.

"Don't mention him! You betrayed us! I thought I could trust you. I thought I could fight by your side. I guess I was wrong."

He tensed, but he was too late. I drew and fired my Ace, killing him in an instant. I didn't come unprepared, and so a large amount of Sentinels opened fire on those traitor Wolves. I didn't expect some of my men to desert during the ambush, but they won't show themselves if they're smart. This ain't good. I don't have as much men anymore. I have to be careful.

That ambush didn't go without a cost. I was examining the damage when I noticed a body was missing. One of Flytrap's closest friends, Hammer. Oh shit. I just realized he's right behind me. I turned around, but even then it was too late. His knife was drawn, aimed for my heart. I closed my eyes, accepting the sweet release that is death. But nothing ever came. Reaper took the hit. I quickly disarmed and shot Hammer. Then I made my way to Reaper, who was lying on the floor, bleeding out.

"Shit, Reaper, just stay awake! Don't fall asleep!"

He looked at me, sadness in his eyes.

"I wish I could, comrade...but I'm afraid I have no choice."

I had lost yet another friend. The light from his vibrant blue eyes extinguished, he was gone. Dead. I carried his body away for a funeral.
