Tonight is a full moon so Steph and I decided to have a sleepover. We watch a movie together while eating take-away pizza and then we go to sleep.
Half-way through the night my phone rings waking me up from my deep sleep. The caller ID shows Chris's smiling face. I took that photo when we were at the beach about two months ago. Why is he calling? Did something happen? Did someone get attacked? My heart is pounding faster as I answer. "Is everything okay?"
"No one died." That's a relief. "We have guests."
Guests? What kind of guests? "What do you mean?"
"Dylan and co are here. They came for us to help them find Gwydion and bring him down. They said we are stronger together as a pack."
"That's crazy! Are you actually thinking of going through with this?" Is he out of his mind? What if he gets hurt? Gwydion seems to be a powerful wizard after all.
"They presented a good argument. They told us that in Canada there was an increase in wolf attacks and if it keeps going, people will hunt us down. All of us will be exposed."
I have no idea what to say to that. I do not want them to end up in a lab for experiments or dead. "Can't you find another way without committing a murder?"
"The wizard is very old - most probably the oldest person on earth. He should be dead already."
Maybe he is right. "I don't know what to tell you."
"You don't have to tell me anything. I have already made up my mind. Nate and Luke both agree. I just wanted to inform you of our plan. They are going to train us until Gwydion shows up again. We will be training every night."
My mind is on a rollercoaster right now. I have many thoughts jumbled up in my brain. I cannot make sense of anything. "Okay."
"Will you be okay? I don't want you to worry because you don't have to."
"Be careful," is all I can say. I hang up and stare out the window for a moment. It is still dark outside. I need to get back to sleep but I cannot. My tossing and turning wakes up Steph and I end up telling her the latest updates. After what happened to her in the cave, she does not think anything that involves the wizard is a good idea. Unfortunately, it is their choice, not ours.
