The late breakfast we had at the diner this morning was filled with tension radiating from Chris. I avoided sitting next to Nate for Chris's sake. Instead I sat next to Steph with Chris on my other side. Nate sat next to Steph. I told Steph about what was going on between Chris and Nate while Lizzie, Nick and Nate were discussing a movie. Steph could not believe me until she asked Nate for a confirmation. We ate our food in silence except for Lizzie's giggling whenever Nick whispered something into her ear or showed her something on his phone.
Chris and I were the first to leave. The drive to my house was silent. He did not even glance my way once. When he stops in front of my house, I stay in his car.
"Would you like to come inside?" I ask tentatively.
He looks at me, seeming more relaxed now. "I thought you would dump my a** after my uncontrollable rage toward Nate." He gives me a slight smile.
"I understand why you were angry but you have nothing to worry about. I love only you." I lean into him to kiss him and he meets me half way. Our kiss is gentle and sweet.
He pulls back and asks, "Is your annoying sister at home?"
I laugh. He hates my sister as much as I do if not more. "I don't know." I look at the time on my phone. It is almost noon. "She probably can back from her session with the therapist." She is still seeing a therapist after what happened with Eric. "Aunt Julie is probably preparing lunch right now. You can eat with us."
"We just had breakfast," he whines.
I chuckle. "We can eat a little bit. We don't have to eat everything. My Aunt will save extra food in the fridge for tonight." I am hopeful he will stay because I do not want to go through lunch alone with my sister present. Besides, I miss him when he is not around.
"Fine."
I clap like a child excited that he is going to stay for lunch with my family. I have not informed Aunt Julie that I will join them for lunch, let alone that Chris will join us, but she always prepares extra food.
We enter my home and I call out my Aunt.
"In the kitchen!" she calls back.
Chris follows me into the kitchen and I inform Aunt Julie that he will eat with us. She is very excited about it. She likes Chris... a lot. I do not blame her. At the beginning of our relationship she was concerned because of the fact that he likes to wear black. Now she understand that it is just his choice just like I choose to wear a dress instead of a shirt and pants. She had also given me the embarrassing speech of having protection. She still reminds me sometimes.
Luke joins us at the table. "Look who decided to show up. How are you man?"
Chris gives him a brotherly handshake, something they have mastered over the past few months. "I'm better now. You?"
"I'm excited for college." My brother will be leaving for college in a month. I will miss him. How am I going to get through Claire's annoying personality without him? At least I will have Chris as my source of comfort.
"Good for you." Chris is much more at ease as he interacts with Luke.
Claire enters the kitchen. "What is he doing here?"
"Don't start being a b****," Luke tells her. I really am going to miss him.
"He's not family," she continues. She never stops being a pain in the a**.
She is really getting on my nerves and I cannot take it anymore. "Shut the f*** up. He is my boyfriend and he is welcome to come over anytime he wants to so deal with it or else leave."
Everyone stares at me as if I grew another head. I never stood up to my sister like this. I am surprised at myself as much as they are.
"Damn, what have you done with my sister?" Luke says proudly.
"Emma, language," Aunt Julie scolds me. Then she turns to Luke. "Even you. She is learning this foul language from you." Then she turns to Claire. "And you need to be nice to your siblings and other people. No one likes a hater."
Claire sits at the table, ignoring everyone by focusing on her phone.
"Phones away," Aunt Julie declares. Claire ignores her and Aunt Julie takes the phone away. "You'll get it after we eat if you behave."
"I'm not a child," Claire complains.
I smile brightly at Aunt Julie's action toward Claire. Claire deserves some discipline because she acts like a spoiled brat most of the time.
"Then stop acting like one," Aunt Julie retorts. Claire pouts but does not say another word.
I smile toward Chris and Luke and they mirror my smile. We eat our food in peace without Claire's rude remarks.
After lunch, Chris helps Julie clean up and asks for permission to join me in my room.
"Leave the door open," Aunt Julie warns.
We nod and head upstairs to my room. We sit on my bed and Chris surprises me with what he says. "I want to call Nate and apologize for how I acted. Confronting him the way I did was not the right thing to do."
I just nod because I have no idea what to say. He takes out his phone and dials Nate's number. He actually apologizes to Nate in front of me. It would have been better if he apologized face to face but over the phone is fine too I guess. I am satisfied my old Chris is back. I love him so much. He is so kind to everyone. He calms me down when my sister gets on my nerves. He sticks up for me when need be. He takes me out on dates. He reasons things out the way nobody else does. He is good friends with my brother and they get along so well. And he loves me as much as I love him.
The End.
