Told As Jen Daw
-
Clair's whole spirit changes when her dad is around especially when he is like this. Clair took almost a while step backward when her dad said her name. From the sound of his voice he was disappointed again, he always disapproved when Clair did anything other then work. It's sad because Clair never seemed to understand it wasn't fair for to be working so hard since she hadn't even shifted yet.

In our pack, Alpha training starts when an the future Alpha shifts for the first time. An Alpha has a birth right to the pack they're heritage lineage starts in, but if they are born into a pack with no other Alphas yet to be born in that generation then they have a birth right to that pack.

Clair's family has had two Alphas in a row, but they were the original founding blood line of the pack. For the first chunk of our pack Clair's family continued to have born Alphas. When the moon goddess decided it was time for a new bloodline to lead the pack, a child born into a different family was born an Alpha. It is assumed that the child of the Alpha is the next born alpha, but it's not confirmed until their first shift.

If the child of the Alpha or in the Alphas family is not the Alpha there are two ways to tell, first when the children shift the first time. Or if another child in another family is born an Alpha, when that child shifts the pack is told. There have been been at least 16 Alphas in Clair's family so far over the course of the two hundred years in our pack. Of course Clair's family had Alphas in other packs though and were once considered royalty before the last official war with the cold ones. The name of the Woulfe was respected, feared, hated, loved and extremely powerful.

Mr.Woulfe was sure that Clair would be the next Alpha and he had high standards. Technically the Alpha training isn't allowed to start till the next born Alpha turns for the first time, but Clair has been receiving higher private education and physical training along with shadowing her father most of her life. Luckily, even though Clair was taken out of normal schooling when she was ten we weren't separated. I am one of the few people allowed to have a relationship with Clair.

Since my father is the Beta I have the birthright to be the next Beta. Beta's here aren't born like The Alphas. The beta is the first born child of the last beta, unless the position is turned down or the family has a type of disgrace. My dad is the first in our bloodline to be Beta in this pack and he earned his position with hard work and will power.

I've known Clair my whole life, well at least known of her. I was six when my dad became the pack Beta, that's when I was introduced to Clair. She seemed so quiet and calm when I first met her. We had been at a family dinner with all the council and their families. Clair and I were the only two young children there, Clair hardly spoke throughout dinner and was so still and calm. I was curious about the pretty and calm girl, she wasn't like any one else at school.

While the adults talked and drank we were put in Clair's room to watch a movie or play with toys. The moment an adults eyes were off of us Clair became a lighting bolt. She was loud, confident, and mischievous, I was in heaven following her around while she sneaked into the kitchen to get cookies. Ever since then we were inseparable.

Mr. Woulfe cleared his throat drawing me from my thoughts and all attention of everyone present on him. As an Alpha you have a strong wolf that draws attention and demands to be respected and as for Woulfe bloodline wolves, especially one of direct bloodline, they have strong wolves with original royal blood. Even without either of those Mr. Woulfe has a presence that makes you pay attention, he was a man in his early forties, about 6'5" with a broad strong built. Everyone present practically held there breath, he was known to have a temper, not even Clair spoke up.

"Why are you out here? You need to get rest and get ready for your moment." Mr. Woulfe said with a stern poker face.

"Well we wanted to go for a sw-swim, yanno getting out any jitters and bonding with my beta." Clair said and adverted her eyes to the ground, studying it. Even though I know the pressure she has on her in the moment, my heart nearly skipped a beat hearing her call me her beta.

"Clair. Who are you talking to?" Mr. Woulfe asked but didn't really ask more of demanded Clair's eye contact. Once Clair looked up at him he continued.

"Now then. The day before my first had no jitters as you called them, no anxieties, worries, nor even nerves. Simply just pride and some excitement. Jitters, are a sign of hesitation and hesitation is-"

"A sign of weakness, I know father." Clair interrupted him. Immediately we could all feel the pushing of an Alpha spirit, a technique alpha wolves carry to make others submit.

"Don't you get smart with me, girl." Mr. Woulfe said grabbing Clair's write and tanking her. He must've felt all our eyes on him because he looked around with the corner of his eyes and dropped her arm.

"Clair, what if you had gotten hurt? You're my only daughter." Mr. Woulfe's voice saturated with false emotions and an undertone if a threat.

"Had we'd lost you, especially on the day before your big night. Imagine what would happen to the pack? An Alpha must remember these things." Mr. Woulfe said straightening himself out and taking a step back.

"Yes father." Clair said sounding defeated. I wanted none other than to run in between them and protect her or hug her, but I was too scared to move.

Then we all get the stumbling forward of Brittany, who stood in front of Clair but then thought better and stood next to Clair. She even was bold enough to grab Clair's hand.

"Sir, Clair and I will go back and get ready." Brittany said with a new found determination in her voice, of all the people for her to talk like that to she chose the Alpha. Mr. Woulfe smiled, oddly pleased by the whole idea.

"Yes that's a brilliant idea, it's importantm you be there and ready for it as well Brittany. And you," Mr. Woulfe looked at me, "Go home, you need to be there as well, it's important for a Beta to see their Alpha at their first time."

I knew that. Of course I would be there, not only am I, Clair's longest and best friend but I'm the next Beta. Plus I have a feeling, a hope, or maybe just a dream, tonight I'll shift too and Clair will be my mate. But my head span, why does Brittany need to go. What does he mean by be ready for "it". What is it? They don't think Brittany will be Clair's mate... do they? Clair hasn't felt anything about Brittany or doesn't hope Brittany's her mate...

Does she?

Authors Note
Saturday's update may be late, school just started and it's been hectic plus I have an event I'll be at all day. Like from 10 am till 8 pm type of all day. Also today's question of the chapter is, do you like dry oatmeal? Personally I don't eat oatmeal dry but my mom does, she eats it out of the little packages like it's granola.
