5 years later

I gathered my books for class. I had re-applied for OSU and was reaccepted. The campus was as beautiful as I had hoped, and studying both physics and language arts was amazing.

I had left Greenbrooke with no want to return except for my friends there. Jenny, Xavier, and their adopted baby Jayson, all supported me leaving. Ok, well obviously not the baby but Im sure he would have to if he could say anything but "mama". I still called them from time to time, made sure that they were all ok, asked about their weekend plans. But I know as time goes on we will drift apart until all we had of each other were the memories at the disco and on the boardwalk.

As for John, well, we too had drifted apart over time.

I still love him. I always will. He saved me when I couldn't help myself. And maybe one day we will find ourselves together again. Or perhaps just be friends. But either way, Im glad we shared each others lives for that time.

Im dating a new boy now, Liam. He's tall and attractive and sweet. Kind of a daredevil. He makes me happy, and thats all I could ask for.

Thats one thing I learned from my years in Green Brooke. That a relationship shouldn't be a burden, it shouldn't hurt, it shouldn't be all you care about.

It should make you happy.

I still remember Johns words. "Im not half of a whole."

Im not half of something. Im a whole person who deserves to be treated as such.

So thats how I live now, as a whole, independent, person.

I no longer need a man, or my mother, or my best friends to kiss it better.

I just need me.
