Following the man who would be taking me home that day, we arrive in front of a black SUV with windows so darkly tinted that it caught the curiosity of those around us. Armando's employee opens the door for me, sliding into the smooth beige leather seat, my foot promptly gets caught on the strap of a duffel bag. The man closes the door and opens the driver's door and starts the car. My heart began to race a bit, I was always socially awkward and had a hard time talking to strangers especially those who spoke Italian. I barely know any Italian! "Where do you live miss?" he asks. I sigh. Thank God he spoke English. Telling him my address he nods and presses a button on the side of his seat and suddenly he was out of my view. He had raised a partition wall, giving myself privacy, he must've figured I had a hard night and could probably feel my social awkwardness.
Closing my eyes, I exhale. All the pressure from the night, the Giovanni incident and meeting Armando and now I was in a stranger's car. Too much for one night. My stomach began to turn, and my body wanted fresh air. I crack the window beside me, feeling the cool breeze blowing through my hair and cooling my warm face. My mouth began to salivate, and the need to vomit back up all the too many of the night began to hit me. I quickly grab the duffel bag ready to heave but the feeling subsided once I saw what was inside. Guns. Beautifully dark black, shining and reflecting the moonlight that peaked through the window. Curiosity overtook me as I stared at the weapon. I put down the duffel bag and continued to look at the small petite weapon that sat on my lap. It was small, it must've been the ones that could easily be hidden in a holster on a women's thigh. The barrel of the gun was not that long, the exterior was accented with a chrome finish. Then it had hit me. Why would there be a gun in this car? Before I could think of anything else, the car stopped. Panicking, I quickly stuff the small weapon in my purse. The partitioned lowered. "We're here Miss" he said. We were. My tiny apartment on a hill overlooking the ocean waited for me to come home. I thanked the man and walked up the walkway. He drove away as I went to open my door. Thank God, I'm exhausted. The muscles all over my body ached for a nice, hot and long shower. My stomach felt sour, so dinner was not on the plans for tonight. I plug my phone in to charge on the night stand and head to the bathroom. Seeing the toilet in my bathroom brought up the memory of feeling sick, and sure enough I got sick again. After what felt like throwing up my insides, I rested my head against the cold tub. Undressing I get ready to head in and just wash everything off today.
After a nice warm shower, I dive into the soft safety of my comforters. While still a bit drunk, I closed my eyes trying to numb the dizziness that overtook my body. My mind raced, this night could have taken a turn for the worse. It could've been so much worse if Armando didn't interfere. My phone began to vibrate uncontrollably. Waking up the screen I see 10 missed calls from Meredith.
"Hey! Did you head out? Sorry Maria had just broken up with her boyfriend and went through a breakdown so we went to the bathroom so she could calm down. Did you head out? We couldn't find you. I tried to reach you, but your phone was dead. Hope you're home safe. If you still need a ride call me xx."
I thought of it best that I didn't mention the Giovanni incident with her. She couldn't have known her friend could turn out to be a creep. I set my alarm for the next morning and shut off my lights. My mind became consumed with the thought of Armando. I sit in my bed and stare at the ceiling until exhaustion overtook my body.
I woke up the next morning 2 hours late. Shit! Already I had missed my Victimization course. Good fucking going Cat, already making a bad impression with your professors. I've rushed to get dressed and packed for the day. Calling a cab, I anxiously wait still a bit hungover and feeling a bit ill I had completely forgotten to grab a bite. Not how I planned to start the day, already having a rough time I shake off the uneasiness and mentally prepare myself for the day.
