I looked out the window and watched as the trees and grass moved by fast. My older brother, Jin, drove the car. I had to move to a new house, in a new area, and start a new life. Our parents died in a bad accident which resulted in me moving in with my older brother out in the city area. All my life I was raised out in the country but now I'm suddenly moved into a highly populated area. I'm not exactly ready for change, I just want to curl up into a ball and lay in bed for the rest of my life.
Fingers were snapped right in my face and I turned to look at my older brother.
"Are you listening?" He asked me. I stared at him. We never had a great sibling relationship. In fact, the last time we talked was when I was 10 and I'm 16 now. He was 8 years older than me so I didn't see him that much when I was younger. I didn't have a role model, didn't have help in life, I was raised like I was an only child. In a way I actually felt bad for him, he has the burden of taking care of me at age 24. "Hey!" he said as he snapped again.
"I'm sorry... I was distracted..." I whispered as I looked at my feet. He let out a loud sigh and I turned my head. I wasn't that great at paying attention. Never was, probably never will be. I space out too much. It was like my specialty in life.
"Jess... You need to focus! I asked you something important." he said in a monotone voice.
"What is it?" I asked him as I looked out the window again.
"How often do you eat rice?" I turned my head and stared at him blankly. That question was so important.
"Rice? I eat it as a daily side dish. Why?" I asked in a bored tone.
"I work in a model agency and one of my jobs is to recruit people. I am going to recruit you." What even? I just started a new life and now he wants me to work? Well isn't that just nice... And... what does that have to do with rice?
"Fine. What am I doing? How much will I be paid?" Those were really the only questions I had. Again, I stared out the window but this time my eyes were greeted by buildings and the smell of smoke rather than the fresh grass smell.
"You'll be a model for us and be paid depending on the hours or how well your pictures come out." He informed me. I continued to stare at the unhealthy land that laid out in front of us. Where was the grass, trees, flowers, and blue skies? I thought cities were just over exaggerated in movies.
"Okay. As long as I'll be able to still get an education and not be so deprived with anything then I'll do it." I responded as I let out a sigh. My life really is changing...
