Chapter 1: The Little Town
-The town erupted in a bustle around 6 in the morning, seeming almost like they were conducting a song. Marinette Dupain Cheng, a semi new resident in the village, strolled through the streets on her way to a shop. Many young men were looking to make her their wife, but Marinette wasn't in for marriage just yet. She was only 20 and very independent, wishing to make something out of her life before getting hitched.
She sauntered inside the small boutique, looking around at the gorgeous ladies. Chloe, the town gossip, was looking at a pair of heels when she then glanced up to see Marinette. "Oh my! If it isn't Dupain Cheng. What seems to be the problem? Why are you in here again" she sneered. Marinette set down her basket on the counter as Chloe went behind it. "Hi Chloe. I was hoping to pick up the fabrics I ordered? Alya told me they would be here today" she smiled her best smile, though she didn't especially like talking to Chloe.
Chloe rolled her eyes. "That sheer pink fabric and the gold lace? It's here. I wish I could lie, but I don't want to keep you here any longer than you need to be. I'll be right back" she said and walked off into a robed off room. Marinette looked around the room observing the clientele. Sabrina was cleaning the windows, and some girls were looking at a cute little parasol that probably just came in.
Marinette glanced at a beautiful dress up on a display mannequin, decorated with white frilly lace and a nice lengthy skirt. She wished she could have it, but it was probably the most expensive item there. Nevertheless, she admired the beauty in many things like that. Fashion was her world. Chloe came back with a bag containing the items inside. "Hey Chloe, where's Alya today? She doesn't seem to be here..." Marinette looked around again. "How should I know? It's not like I'm friends with that girl! Now go away, I don't want to talk to you anymore" Chloe rushed her away and out the door.
Right as Marinette stepped out, she could here the familiar tune of the city. And the familiar voice of someone she rather not see at the moment. Along came the tall and handsome Luka Couffaine. She quite liked him since he was nice and charming to her, but she didn't like the fact he was perused by many girls. She also didn't like how he tended to see himself as a public figure and really important as he had just signed up to join the band at the biggest pub in town.
He laughed up a storm which made her heart go fluttering out, but she needed to get home fast before other girls would come and mock her for being close with him. She felt his gentle and strong hand touch her shoulder. "Marinette, I thought I recognized you! Where were you going just now?" He asked, his voice just like the main melody to the town's little tune. "Hi Luka, I was uh... just heading to the library!" She lied. He laughed. "You're heading in the wrong direction then. Mind if I escort you there?" He said.
She nodded, though she really didn't feel like being gawked at now. He had a steady grip on her shoulder and she huddled into him, scared of the girls. "What seems to be the problem?" He asked, realizing that she was acting funny. "Nothing uhm... can we walk a bit faster?" She said, glancing up. He chuckled. "Alright. And don't worry, the girls don't mean anything to me. Nothing compared to you. Here we are" He said as they had ended up at the doors to the library. "Thanks Luka. I'm sorry I'm a bit out of character today, but I am glad that you walked me here. Goodbye" she nodded and almost dipped inside before he grabs her hand.
"Hey uh... I was thinking maybe tonight you'd like to come to the pub to hear me perform? I'd greatly appreciate it if you could. My sister is apart of it and she was grateful for the skirt you had made for her a while back..." he said. She smiled weakly. "I'll think about it, Luka. But I would have to see if my parents are ok with it. If I show, you'll see me in the front!" She said. Luka smiled and took the hand he held and kissed it. "Thank you" he mumbled before walking away.
What a dream! Marinette was glad he was a good friend, but she really couldn't see him as more than that. A good friend. She sighed and had to take the longer route home now that she was here. But she was glad that not a lot of girls gave her glares on the way back.
