8: The Fools
-"Come with me" Chat Noir said. Marinette looked up, startled, because this was the first thing in 10 minutes he has said to her while sitting down there. "Where?" She asks, slowly tidying up her plates. "Tour. Around the castle" he said, holding out a paw. "We're not going to do anything extraneous... Are we? Because you need to take care-" "my wound has already healed itself. There's no need to worry about that anymore" he grunts.
She furrows her brows. "But how-" "I've been able to heal quickly and rapidly ever since... So don't think too much about it. It's not your deal anymore, it's mine so let's just get going before I decide that I want you out" he growled. She scoffed. "Like you can boss me around! But fine, I'll take your offer of a tour... You better know that I'll be the judge of when you need to take off that bandage work I did on you" she said.
He rolls his eyes and they set off from the dining room to the foyer.
------------------"I'm gonna need some help" Luka says, placing down a small bag of coins. Kim stared back, confused and intrigued. "What's on your mind that needs help, pretty boy?" He smirked and pushed himself upright in his chair. "I need you to rally up a group of men. We need to save Marinette" Luka said. Kim raises his eyebrows.
"Marinette Dupain Cheng? The baker's daughter? Now what would she need saving for? Last time I checked, she whipped a guy into shape after they tried to start a fight at the bar. She can probably save herself" he laughed. Luka thought about that for a minute.
Marinette wasn't a typical damsel in distress, and she certainly can beat someone up if she needed to. He remembered when she first came to the town, one of the first things she did was save an old man from a runaway cart hurdling towards him.
"Apparently, from what her father and mother both say, Marinette has been taken hostage by a monster... A beast, they called it. Marinette was not even there, so I had to go with it... The two were actually suppose to leave for Paris for a week or so for a... carnival or something. But now Marinette is gone and they're at home worrying if their daughter is dead or not, and they're too scared to do anything because a monster has their child. Whether I choose to believe it or not is not of concern, we just need to find Marinette" he says, forcefully.
Kim eyed the coin bag and then back to Luka. "Ok. Say that I can help. How much would that even cost for a group of men, plus the work of going out and sending a search party for a missing girl in the woods, probably miles away from here? Your money can't buy anything of the sort! I'm sorry, but if you want your girl saved, you best find another way to pay up or consider yourself alone in this one" he said, stood up, and strode out of the bar.
Luka didn't know what to do. He sat further on down in his chair and put his hands to his face. This wasn't over. This couldn't be over.
---------------------"Where even are we?" Marinette asks as the two escalate upward in a staircase. "We are currently in one of the towers. This leads to a sewing room that my servants use to use for mending torn garments.. I use to come here often to see my mom and dad just toiling away at design concepts coming from Paris" he said. He looked so distant in his eyes. Marinette was worried for him. What even happened here?
"Can I ask where they are? They can't leave you behind, right?" She frowned. They stopped climbing up the stairs. He turns to her with a hard, but still sad look on his face. "It's none of your concern right now. They're not here, and I'm glad they aren't... Especially to see what I have done to the place" he said and continued trekking onwards.
"They're dead, aren't they? I'm sorry for your losses, but that isn't what you should say to someone who gave you life" she said. He stops again and she almost bumps into her. "Why? Because they loved me? I'm sorry for your incompetence, but my life was horrible after my mom passed. You can't just say something without knowing what happened, girl" he said and pushed by her and started going back down the stairs.
"Then what happened?! You don't even tell me anything! I need to know now, especially since you want to keep me here like a PET or something!!! I'm going to die here with someone who can't even talk to me like a civilized person! You're ungrateful, stuck up, and rude! I'm a fool for helping you!" She sat down on the steps and cried out.
He stopped going down the stairs and turned to see her. He didn't mean to make her cry, and it made him feel horrible for doing so. He crouches as best as he could next to her and tries to put a paw on her shoulder. She swats his hand away and clings onto the wall. "You hate me... Just admit it. I am a horrible person... And I am ungrateful.... And stuck up and selfish and whatever... I'm sorry" he says. She sniffled and looked at him straight in the eyes.
"I'm... I'm sorry too... Dang, we are both messed up, aren't we?" She tried laughing but ended up coughing instead. "We are... We can see the sewing room at a later time, right now you look kinda sick. I think we should get you some tea and some medicine" he says and helps her up.
Going down the stairs, the two started a more proper conversation on their favorite tea, but in the back of both of their minds was the yearning for the truth of it all.
