Hope packed out of there shared apartment to another. Amanda was devastated. She didn't know what to do anymore. She had told her parents everything and they were very disappointed. Her mother beat her up and she didn't even cry. She knew she deserved every bit of pain she felt. She had lost everything. She had lost her baby, her best friend, her boyfriend, she had lost the trust and respect her parents had for her and most especially she had lost her pride as a woman; her womb. She remembered everything her mother told her the day she broke the news to them. Her mother had first beaten her up. Her dad had stopped her mother from continuing the beating. He just looked down on her, shook his head and left the living room. Then her mother began to speak.
"How could you do something like this? You were the apple of our eyes. You didn't lack anything, Amanda. You went to the best schools, your closet is like a boutique, we didn't give you any cause for you to look outside. How can you betray us and break our hearts this way?" Her mother said with so much pain in her eyes and Amanda couldn't help but cry. She had disappointed them so bad. "Is this the kind of example you're showing your little sister and brother? How can they ever look up to you? How can they ever come to you for advice? Do you think they would ever respect you? Amanda, 4 times. You did 4 abortions and for what? A useless boy who promised you heaven and earth. So, where is he now? Now, at 20, you're infertile. Who would want to marry you? Which man wouldn't want a woman who can bear him children? Amanda, I showed you the right way. I showed you the right way and you know it."
"Mommy, I'm sorry, please." Amanda cried on the floor. "I'm so sorry for disappointing you. I'm so sorry."
"That's too late. I can't believe you'd be this irresponsible. I don't know who you are anymore," Her mother had said. "If not for God and your father I would've said you're not my daughter. I won't allow you give me high blood pressure. You're not the only child I gave birth to and I'm happy for that. Because if you were, I would've sent you out of my house. Because you're practically useless to me right now."
"Mommy," Amanda called softly her heart shattering into a million pieces with each word her mother spat at her.
"I don't want to see your face. Just hide in your room or something." With that she left Amanda on the floor sobbing like her life had ended. Well, to her there was no point in living anymore.
"God, please, take it back!" Amanda cried wishing she could start university all over again. She'd be a virgin even till she died. Her whole life was ruined. Everyone had deserted her. She was all alone. Should I just end my life? That would be so much better. She thought.
-
Amanda was on her bed, lying down with her back facing the door. She heard a knock at the door and she rolled her eyes. It was probably her little siblings, Nma and Ifeanyi, coming to disturb her again. She ignored it as tears kept rolling down. She was way skinner than before. She heard the knock again and she turned to glare at the door.
"Nma, you people should leave me alone na!" She said angrily before returning to her previous position.
The door opened and she turned around, ready to scold who ever just entered.
"Are you-" She paused as she saw her parents coming in and shutting the door behind them. She quickly cleaned her face and got down from the bed, but still standing far from them. She was scared of why they were here. Where they coming to send her away? The thought of that drove her crazy.
"Ada," He father called her softly, he had so much pain in his eyes and it hurt Amanda so bad that she was reason behind it. Her father was always a loving, cheerful but quiet handsome man. But these days, he'd lost his ability to smile.
"D-daddy, mommy," Amanda said.
"Sit down," Her father said as Amanda kept looking at them while sitting down. They equally sat down too. "Amanda, I've not spoken to you since you told us what happened, you know that." Amanda looked down and bit her lips hard to stop herself from crying. "It's not because I don't care about what you did, it's because I'm too disappointed and hurt by what you did. Ada, you know how much your mother and I put into you. You never lacked anything. I gave you monthly allowances and we gave you the freedom to do whatever you wanted. It's not like we were stupid its because we didn't want you to go and get too excited over some things that aren't even worth it. But the truth be told, what's done is done. There's no reversing it," He said as Amanda buried her face in her palms, sobbing into them. She'd ruined her life. And everything she did would remind her of it. "But that's not the end of the world." That surprised her.
"Chimamanda," He mother started as she took her daughter's hands and held then tightly, she had tears in her eyes. "You hurt me bad. You disappointed me, and you know it. But that doesn't change the fact that you're my daughter, my first child, my pride. And I love you so much, I can never stop loving you. We all make mistakes and we all have something that we do that we regret but gives us a big lesson that guides us through this life. You've made your mistake and no matter how expensive this is, the world still moves on. It can't stop you from finishing school, becoming the richest woman in the world and showing your so-called friends that you can still make it. You can't give up everything, Ada. You're not weak. I know I said hurtful things, and that alright because I'm your mother and I have the right to get mad and scold you." Amanda nodded rapidly, agreeing with her mother. "But you're still my little girl. You'll always be."
"Mommy," Amanda cried as her mother hugged her. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. Please, forgive me. I didn't mean to disappoint you."
"It's okay, my love. You have to get over this and continue with your life, okay?" Her mother said patting her back.
Amanda nodded and went over to her father and knelt down in front of him. "I'm sorry, daddy. Forgive me please."
Her father quickly raised her up and hugged her. "Ada'm," He called patting her back. "Don't crying, it's okay."
Amanda was very thankful for the kind of parents she had. They had lifted her spirit and she wasn't as sad as she was. They still loved her. She was still their little girl. Even if she didn't have a womb, she wasn't going to give up on life. She was going to be so successful that it would literally hurt Hope and Prince. She was also going to work so hard to build an orphanage and hold a seminar every month on dealing with unwanted pregnancies and the risks of abortions. She had made a huge mistake and she hoped that by this, she'd save the lives of so many young girls.
