Back at the hotel, Luka and Chloe confided with each other until they were both sure each other was alright.
"Like you said earlier, you better get home to your family. They're probably wondering where your at." Chloe said.
"Since when did you start to care about my family worrying?" Luka smiled at Chloe. She put her hands on her hips.
"As a super heroine, it is my dudy to make sure everyone is safe and they don't worry." Luka chuckled.
"Okay, Queen. I'm off. Don't forget to finish your homework though. And I'll be by tomorrow afternoon to help you some more." Luka bowed teasingly, then left the hotel.
Chloe fainted down on her bed dramatically. Luka Couffaine had to be the best person in the whole world-no in the universe! Chloe thought. She heaved a happy sigh at the thought of seeing him again, and again. Yes, he was definitely the best person in the universe.
💢
So day after day went by, and Chloe slowly catched up with her school work. Thanks to Luka, of course. She never seemed to be bored by him, but instead his presence made her want to be a better person. She gradually stopped yelling at people, and tried her best to forgive them. It wasn't until one evening, when Chloe began to worry.
Chloe was sitting on her bed, fresh with the memory of Luka on her mind. Her phone illuminated with a message, and she picked it up accordingly and read:
C, I'm coming for dinner tomorrow night. You better be there this time. -Audry Bourgeois-
Chloe almost threw her phone across her room. It wasn't that she didn't want to see her mother, for Chloe secretly did miss her. It was that she was afraid of what her mother would thing of her now. Chloe had lately been, well, kind to people. Her mother would never tolerate that.
💢
Chloe's thoughts were still with her later that day when Luka was trying to teach her some algebra.
"Is something on your mind?" Luka asked when he noticed Chloe staring into the school yard. She shook herself back to reality.
"What?"
Luka chuckled at her clueless behavior. Chloe only put her hands on her hips.
"What's so funny?"
"Its just cute when your thinking." Luka said. When Chloe just leaned back into her chair despite Luka's remark, Luka asked her what was wrong.
"Its my mother! She's coming down to dinner tomorrow." Chloe started dramatically.
"And why is that so bad? I'm sure your mother will forgive you for not being there last time." Luka said soothingly.
"Its just... I don't know what she'll think of me. I've always wanted to be just like her, but now... I don't know. I just hate to wonder what she'll think of me you know, being sorta nice and all." Chloe turned away from Luka. Why did she even bother to tell him?
Luka pulled Chloe closer to him. He then laid his hand gently on Chloe's shoulder. "Chloe, don't worry so much about what your mother thinks. Your an amazing girl, and the fact that you want to change and be a good person is really what matters. If your mother can't see that, then she's blind." Chloe could only stare at Luka. She was once again lost in his ocean-blue eyes.
"B-but what if she shuns me? My whole life I've wanted to impress her. I don't want to be useless."
"Chloe, a kind, heroic soul is never useless." when Chloe still didn't seem convinced, Luka changed her mind. "What if I went with you?"
Chloe gave a surprised look. "Went with me?" she was thoroughly confused.
"Yeah, I could come to dinner with you and your parents. If that's okay." Chloe almost hugged Luka she was so happy.
"It would be so much better if you came!" Chloe said almost cheerfully. "I just have to check with my dad."
"Great."
A few hours later Chloe had finished listening to Luka's lesson, but her mind was far off. Chloe almost skipped our the door of the school room, but she took a pause and looked back.
"Thank you, Luka." She said.
"Glad I could help." He replied.
💢
Later Chloe was rushing down the halls of the hotel, looking for her father. When she ran into him, she asked the question forming in her mind.
"Daddy, when mom comes tomorrow for dinner, can I bring someone else?"
"You mean Sabrina?" Mr. Bourgeois asked. Chloe hesitated.
"Um, well, its another friend." Chloe said, looking downwards. She wished her father would just say yes.
"Oh, well, I suppose that will be all right." Mr. Bourgeois said.
"Thanks Daddy." Chloe wanted to hug her dad, but she held back. Chloe could only hope this dinner would go well.
