Everyone watched helplessly as Armand broke down in front of them.... Yugo felt awful... He should've realized this was all a front. Armand had been breaking down under the pressure for quite some time.. He was young, much too young to inherit the throne.. much too young to be dealing with his father's death. Amalia was mortified. Adamai, who was standing behind Armand, stepped away slightly, eyes wide. "What.... the fuck... am I supposed to do?" Armand muttered again, nails digging into his palms hard enough to draw blood, his knuckles turning pale. "I can't... I can't do this alone- I... Father is dying, the kingdom is looking to me.. Amalia is constantly off on her little adventures and.. and... I don't know what to do... I'm- I'm scared and I'm worried and I'm... lost... but I don't... I can't-" He was at a loss for words at this point, his breathing slowly evening out as he spoke, broken sentences and aborted explanations spilling from bloodied lips. The sight was.... heartbreaking. Armand was tall and muscular, proud and regal if not a bit arrogant... and here he was, curled up on a bloody floor, bruised, battered, and broken. Yugo looked to Percedal, eyes wide and pleading, and Percedal set him down gently. Yugo stumbled, legs wobbly and weak, still injured, but determined. He kneeled down next to Armand, who flinched away, and put a hand on his shoulder gently. Armand flares up at him, fire still burning behind his watery eyes. "What. Do you think you're doing... I don't want your damn pity." He hisses, eyes narrowed. Yugo sighed. "I'm not offering pity Armand... I'm... offering help. You don't have to deal with this alone. I can see... you think being king means being strong and stable all the time, bearing the weight of the kingdom and it's people on your shoulders..." He murmurs. Adamai nodded. "That's not what strength is... you can ask for help you know? You've seen what we've done Armand. We've.. saved people, we've ended conflicts, helped others. But we could only do this because we could rely on each other, confide in each other and trust each other with our lives." He explains, voice gentle. Hugo smiled softly at his brother. Amalia watched, tears in her eyes and scooted over to her brother, lunging in to hug him tightly. Armand started, groaning slightly in pain as Amalia jostled a few bruises and maybe some broken ribs. She buried her face in his shoulder, eyes still wet. "They're right... Armand.. you're my brother, I love you, and I- you- you don't have to deal with this on your own. We're all here for you." She says quietly, choked up and shaky. Armand looked absolutely bewildered as he hugged Amalia back gently, looking at her with wide green eyes. Yugo put a hand on Amalia's back as well, a soft smile on his face. Eva smiled as well, intwining her fingers with Percedal's gently as the redhead iop squeezed her hand. "It's true!" Percedal says, smiling sheepishly. "I know we Uh... weren't exactly best friends considering the whole thing.. but we're here for you and we'll help any way we can." Elely and Flopin stuck close to their parents, a bit confused by the whole ordeal seeing as they were still children and didn't quite understand the... Ah.... emotional strain of this. Armand was... completely blindsided. "I... what- What could you do?" He asks, confused and embarrassed and.... somewhat relieved. He had all these people... his sister... smiling and saying they were there for him... "Well, we can take care of the things you're too busy to, we can help solve the problems of the people and all that. Take some of the load off of your shoulders." Yugo suggests. Amalia nods. "And... I'll help too. I'm royalty too and I do need to act like it... I'm- I- I can't give up my adventures with Yugo and the rest but- but- I- I can help. I can be here and I can help you." She says softly, still burying her face in Armand's shoulder. Armand wasn't quite sure what to say anymore. He was.... so tired. His body and head ached and he just... wanted this all to be over. He'd cried for the first time since his father had gotten sick, let out all his bottled up emotions and... he was just tired. "Okay... I'm- I'm- really sorry.." He murmurs, dropping his head and resting it against Amalia's. "You.... didn't deserve to have to go through all this and I'm- I was out of line. I'm sorry Amalia, Yugo. The rest of you as well..., I was just- trying not to think about it... I thought having Amalia marry someone with money and power would help me stabilize the kingdom after my father's death but..,, I'm so so sorry- that was selfish and thoughtless." He says, voice breaking again before he composes himself. "I.... if you all don't mind, I.. really could use some help.." He admits. Yugo smiles, patting his back. "We're here for you. Just tell us what you need! We're your friends after all, it's what we're for."
The king died about a month later, Amalia, Armand, Yugo, Ruel, Evangeline, Percedal, And Adamai all by his side. Amalia sobbed, clutching the bedsheets and burying her face in them. Armand looked on solemnly, tears spilling silently down his cheeks, his hand shaking on Amalia's back as he tried in vain to comfort her. The rest looked on sadly, mourning the loss of a beloved king and father. The grief would take a long time to heal, and it would not be easy... but it would heal. And Amalia and Armand knew their friends would be there for them the whole way.
And one day when they were older, Yugo the king of his own people, older and wiser, and Amalia the princess of hers, beautiful and kind, eventually wed. It had been a difficult path... there was hardship, fighting, times when they thought their bond had stretched so far it might snap... But they made it through. Yugo, king of the eliotropes, Amalia, his queen now, loved each other dearly. And.. though Ruel and Amalia's father were not present at the wedding, they celebrated in their memory, smiling and bright, friends and family surrounding them. They exchanged their vows, looking at each other with watery eyes and full hearts. And it was such a simple answer to such a complicated question but... the second they both said "I do." They smiled at each other softly, gazes full of love, and kissed.
