"Stay put, wait for back-up." Crackled the voice over the radio.
"I'm going in." I breathed.
"No Brooks! Wait for back-up!" hissed the officer. "The mobsters can wait."
"They'll hear something as we try to get in closer. Trust me I know them."

Six Months Earlier
"Brooks get in here the captain wants to see you."
"Coming." Great, I thought as I turned the corner into the captain's office.
"Come in Brooks, glad you could make it." Sure you are. The Captain, William Burdock, and I had a mutual hatred for each other. The hatred coming from the fact that I was a social genius from Harvard, and he was just, well him.
"Thank you for calling for me." I smiled sweetly. Ugh.
"Yes. I have reviewed your case files, Brooks, and I see that you have solved four murders in the past elven months. Quite impressive."
"Thank you, sir." When can I get out of here? "I try to do my best, sir."
"I see that you also put in a good word for Heavers." Sam 'Heavy' Heavers is my partner, with out him I would probably be dead or getting there. "Who said you could do this?"
"No one sir, I just thought that he deserved a good review."
"Well next time check with me. As for your punishment, paperwork!" Noooooooo! I HATE paperwork.

As I sat at my desk waiting for my printer to be done printing my forty page report. Yes I know, what can I possibly say that would fill forty pages? I have no idea.
When the last page slid out and fell onto the floor. I quickly scanned the pages for any errors when I heard. "Dude, Brooks got a report punt because she put in a good word for you."
"What! Why did the little know-it-all do that?" Sam and I are on a nickname basses. I call him 'Sam', and he calls me 'know-it-all.' I know, charming. But that's what you get from a cocky, handsome twenty-three year old mc. (murder cop). I know he really does care about me, but in front of his pals I'm just K-I-A. Sigh.
"What's up good look in?" Sam asked friskily.
"Nothing jerk."
"Hey, is that the way you talk about your favorite and only partner?"Rubbing his chest like 'jerk' hurt his feelings, as if.
"Yep!" I replied cheerfully.
"Watch out Brooks I'll get you back." Did I mention Sam is a prankster. His pranks involving chile powder, a bra, and a bucket full of feathers, where the best. And know that when I say that I mean that complete opposite.
