(A/N: Dong Sicheng is Winwin's real name)
"What?" I exclaimed to my king father, shocked upon hearing what he told me.
"You heard me." His gaze hardened, now a glare. "We must be at peace. You are of age, as is he."
"But father-"
"I won't hear it. It is decided. You will marry prince Sicheng." With that, he stormed off, slamming the door behind him. Must he have such a big temper? I dropped myself on my bed. I found myself wondering what the prince was like.
I found out a few days later, when my father told us that we were to go to the Dong kingdom two days prior to the wedding, bringing with us a small army and our horses. I was told that my father, the king and the queen would discuss about the wedding, while the prince and I would get to know each other.
He wasn't at all what I thought he would be. I have met many princes, all thinking they were above everyone and were quite arrogant. Sicheng was very different from any of them. He was handsome and adorably shy, politely and quietly asking if I wanted to go for a walk for him. Of course, I said yes.
As we talked, he came to be less timid and we got to know each other better, finding that we got along very well. I later discovered something about me that I had never thought of before...
We were walking through the forest, sunlight shining through the leaves. Sicheng asked if I was okay with him showing me his favourite place for peace and quiet. Agreeing, he led me through a path, the forest around us dense. We didn't stay for too long, the path soon opening up to a vast, open area. To the right, there was a big field, empty except for grass and wild flowers. To the left, there was a river, softly flowing with small rocks on its edge, a good spot to sit next to the water. I was amazed at how beautiful everything was.
Sicheng had kept walking, not noticing that I had slowed down. When he did realize, he turned to face me. I made eye contact with him, and his own beauty suddenly struck me. How had I not realized how handsome he was? I felt my cheeks heat up. There was a part of me that wanted to look away from him, but my eyes wouldn't cooperate. He started walking towards me. We kept our eyes on each other as he did so. He took one of my hands in his, then gently led me towards the river. I was sure that I was very red at this point, though I hoped not. Why? Why am I like this?
He took a seat one of the rocks, still holding my hand. I sat beside him, now looking down to the water. With my empty hand, I took my shoes off, placing them behind me. I let my bare feet soak in the water, feeling a sense of relief as the cold water made contact with my skin.
"Is it cold?" I heard Sicheng ask.
"No, it's not too cold once you get used to it." I smiled a bit, then made my feet sway back and forth slowly.
We were quiet for a little longer, and I started wondering about this new feeling that had developed. Why am I like this around him?
I then felt drops of water on my face. I froze, surprised. From the corner of my eye, I saw that Sicheng had a shocked expression.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get you," he stuttered. I turned towards him and noticed that he had a small rock in his hand, so I could only assume that he was throwing them at the water.
I chuckled, then said, "No, it's fine. Don't worry about it."
He smiled shyly, then proceeded with throwing rocks at the water, pitching them as far as he could. I decided that a little revenge was in order, and dipped my fingers in the river, then flicked some at him. When he turned towards me, surprised, I couldn't help but laugh. From that point, we were (kind of) splashing each other, though not too much, since our parents wouldn't be too happy with us.
As we lied on the grass, in the middle of the field, I thought about that feeling again. Then I felt Sicheng's hand find mine, lacing our fingers together. It was then I realized what the feeling was. This new thing about me I discovered. I love him... I couldn't fight a smile, not bothered by this feeling. I was glad he was the one I was to be married to. He made me happy, he was caring and wasn't demanding or serious about everything.
"Can I ask something...?" His quiet voice spoke up. I turned my head towards him, finding that he was looking right back at me. His cheeks were tinted red, as were his slightly folded ears, and I couldn't help but think that it was adorable.
"Sure. What is it?"
"Are you... Are you happy?"
"Yes, very much so," I replied, lightly squeezing his hand. He smiled, then it faded a bit.
"What about us having to get married...? Are you okay with that?"
"Honestly... I don't think I've ever been so sure about something. I know that I want to marry you, not only because of the peace. But let me ask you... Are you happy? Are you okay with marrying me?"
He smiled, then brought our intertwined hands to his lips, kissing the back of my hand. Then he sat up, me following him. He placed a hand on my cheek and slowly brought his face near mine. He gave me a quick kiss, then pulled back, leaving our foreheads together.
"Yes."
