Kansas's sneakers crunched through the leaves, as the three walked through the oddly silent forest. Rick tapped his gun, as they stepped over overgrown roots. "So, how many of you ARE there?...." Kansas asked, as she awkwardly stepped over a headless roamer. "Well, let's see......Carl, Hershel, Maggie, Judith, Beth, Tyreese, Carol, Lizzie, Mika, Glenn, Michonne, Daryl, And myself." Rick said, continuing to walk ahead of the other two. "Wow....." Kansas Said, amused at the fact they seemed to have a well built group. "We have more..... people of the governor's, that happened to survive the downing of Woodbury. We don't know them as well, though." Rick added, staring back at Kansas. She gave a slight understanding nod, as they walked into a clearing. "Here we are. Home sweet home." Daryl said, nodding towards a very secure building. "I'm sorry but, why the hell are we camping out in an insane asylum?" Kansas asked, frankly confused. "It's not an asylum, dumbass. It's a prison." Daryl corrected. "Yeah, like that's any better." She scoffed, kicking a rock back into the woods. "Eh, you'll get used to it." Rick said, continuing to walk forward, towards the prison gates. "I'd rather be that rock....." Kansas Said, rolling her eyes, as she followed behind Rick and Daryl.

Kansas entered the main area of the prison, she eyed everyone suspiciously, and she definitely earned some looks back. "Okay, that's Maggie, Beth, And Hershel." Rick said, pointing over to two young ladies and an older man, who was missing part of his leg. "Woah.....where'd the other half go?" Kansas asked, pointing to where his leg used to be. He gave a small chuckle. "Hershel, Maggie, Beth, this is Kansas. She's thirteen and we found her out in the woods, on her own." Rick said, gesturing towards me. Hershel and Maggie gave me a warm smile. "Awww.....you're so cute! I'm Beth! Beth Greene." She said, smiling sweetly and holding a hand out to shake hers. She shook it, a little taken aback by her very strong approach. "That over there, you'll find my son and daughter, Carl and Judith, And two of their friends, Lizzie and Mika. Mika's the youngest." Rick added, pointing over to a group of kids. "Carl's about your age. He's 14. Maybe you two can hang out." Rick suggested. Carl noticed her staring, and gave a small wave. Kansas waved back awkwardly. "Oh....we need to find someone to, you know.....take care of you and all." Rick said, looking around. "I can take her in. It'd be nice to have someone to take care of again." A lady's voice said. Kansas turned around, to meet with the icy blue eyes, of a woman. Suggestively in her late 40's, as far as looks go. "Oh! Kansas, this is Carol." Rick said, pushing Kansas towards her. "Hello! Kansas, right?" Carol asked. Kansas gave a small smile and nodded. She didn't know what it was, but there was something about Carol that really struck her......she seemed very interesting. Like something hid under that kind, warm, gentle smile. Kansas had come to respect people who could hide their emotions, because she knew how hard losing her parents was. Who knows what this woman had gone through.

Carol began leading Kansas through the halls. "So, liking the prison so far?" Carol asked, turning a corner. "I feel like a criminal....." Kansas replied. "Well, you'll warm up to it. You may not like it, but you have to admit, it's better than out there." She said, sternly.

As much as Kansas hated to say....

Carol was right.
