One day in school and already I had one detention. Proof school wasn't my cup of tea.
At least I had that girl, Hanna with me, there was something about her. I felt like we were similar in a way. But she couldn't be like me, no one was like me.
Hanna trudged into the room and sunk into the seat next to me, arms folded. This next hour would be fun...

Exactly 43 minutes into the detention, Mr Wright got up, saying, "I'll be right back, you two don't move an inch!"
He marched out the room, closing the door behind him.
Hanna looked at me, as if analysing my movement. Her eyes looked familiar.
"Who are you?" she said.
"Um... Logan... you know that already..."
"No, I mean what are you?" she said it as if she already knew the answer.
"I dont know what you're talking about..." My hands were getting sweaty, how could she know? It didn't make sense.
"Ugh, don't try and hide it from me, I'm not gonna stop until you tell me."
I began to get protective, no one could know who I was. They'd hate me. "NO!" I let out loud growl. I could feel the veins in my neck, my teeth, my eyes, my senses getting stronger. I breathed heavily, eyes wide open. I couldn't contrrol it, I was changing, she knew.
I looked at her, expecting to see a horrified, scared face. Instead she just looked at me, smiling.
"See, that wasn't so hard, was it?" she reassured me.
I managed to get control of my emotions, the tingling sensation subsided. "Why aren't you running away?" I asked her.
"Don't you remember me from this morning?"
"What?" Suddenly it hit me. There are no wolves in Willowcombe. She's not suprised at who I am.
"You're like me, a freak like me."
"Well, we actaully prefer to go by the name wolfborn, rather than freak."
"A wolf what?"
"Wolfborn."
"So we're basically werewolves with a fancy name."
She let out a laugh. "No, werewolves are born human, and they can't control their wolf self... and they dont't exist, whereas we're born with the wolf as part of us, we can control it, most of the time..."
"Wolfborn," I repeated, I liked it, I'd finally put a name to all the weird things. But yet... "How come all this weird stuff only started recently, if I'm a wolfborn?"
"The wolf in us doesn't show until around our sixteenth birthday, take my sister, for example, she's only fifteen, so she's still normal. But we're sixteen now, so we're basically adults."
There it was, all his questions answered, and he had a new friend that came along with it, bonus.
"Come on, let's get out of here! Let's go to Katie's," Hanna suggested. Mr Wright hadn't returned yet.

"Let's see it then!" Hanna requested.
"What?" I said, catching my breath from the long run to the forest.
"Your wolf! Let's see it!"
I smirked, "okay."
I breathed in slowly, taking in the natural surroundings, the gentle breeze, the rustle of the leaves, the soft chirping of the birds in the trees. With my eyes closed, I breathed out. I began to feel it, the pulsing of my veins, my senses, I could hear everything, feel everything around me, freedom. The tingling sensation started. I felt myself changing.
I opened my eyes, everything was clearer. I wirggled my paws around on the muddy forest floor.
I ran.
"Wait!" Hanna shouted, but I could barely hear her now, I was already far away, running free again, no one could stop me now.
Suddenly, I found myself rolling down the hill, another wolf rolling with me. Toghether we were thrown into a nearby stream, icy water engulfed the two of us.
Did she really just push me down the hill, I thought, shivering from sudden cold, but I couldn't help but laugh.
I cocked my head to look up at Hanna's wolf self, the same wolf I'd seen this morning. She was beautiful, silky auburn fur and glistening yellow eyes.
We circled round each other, and she bit me playfully. I tried to return the bite but she sprinted off, leaving a trail of pawprints in the frosted ground.
I barked happily, and chased her frosty trail.
The sun was low in the sky, conveying a beautiful peach sunset across the sky above me, peaking through the trees. The temperature had dropped along with the sun, and I could now see my icy cold breath as I ran.
Hanna was no longer visible in the empty forest, but on top of the eerie silence I could hear Hanna's playful howl.
I eventually managed to catch up with her, she had stopped dead in her tracks. She twisted her head round to face me at ther side and made a look, as if to say, "you ready?"
She leaped over the edge of the steep hill we were standing barely a few inches from, and disappeared. I peered over the edge, reluctant to follow, but I did.
I hit the ground running, even faster than I ever had, but I wasn't tired, far from it. I felt free.
I caught up the Hanna, who was slowing down to a jogging pace, she seemed more cautious than before.
She nudged me with her paw and leaped into small ditch to the left, I followed.
Hanna began to change into her human self, her eyes went back to her normal, green colour as she grew to her human size. She breathed the air like a human again.
"We're at Katie's house now, we can't be seen as wolves, after all there are no wolves in Willowcombe," she winked.
Hanna clambered out of the ditch as I changed form, the tingling sensation starting again.
"You know, until today, I thought I was alone," I said as I climbed out of the ditch behind Hanna.
"Logan, you are never alone as a wolfborn," she reassured me, "even if you have no other wolfborns around, we are never alone, we have the wild."
I smiled, I am never alone.
"Now, come on, let me introduce you properly to my friends."
