Mood setting song: Last of her kind - Alec Benjamin
" So when you pull away, don't let the memories blind you. "
☆
It's the little things that mattered so much to him.
The little things like the way the corners of her eyes curved up and smiled when she did. The way she fiddled with her fingers when she lied, unable to tell a lie. The way she enveloped him in her warmth whenever he felt down.
God, he loved her so much.
Asra put on a proper white shirt and buttoned it up all the way to the top, replacing his gold choker with a more modest white band. It doesn't look quite right. The ivory-haired man stares hard into the mirror, scanning his formal attire completed by a bespoke light violet suit. A violet that complemented his hypnotic eyes, but not today.
Today, the usual vibrant purple was clouded over, almost grey now.
He smoothens any creases on his outfit, and tilts his head slightly, checking his jaw, his eyes, then he cracks a smile. It doesn't last long, when he realises that's what he was missing, and the grin he wore on his face dropped immediately like a pair of oversized trousers. And again he is met with the sight of an out-of-place Asra.
Asra mentally slaps himself, and tells himself over and over again to just "Get over it." The silence in the changing room was overwhelming, flooding his head with all these thoughts that he just couldn't entertain at the moment. At the corner of his eye, a lone tear, streaking down his cheek, and before he knew it, more and more, racing down his face.
Asra whimpers as silently as he could, sniffling into the sleeves of his padded jacket, patches of it turning dark with every tear that fell onto it. A pain, a somewhat familiar one, fills what was left of heart, and he just couldn't stop his overwhelming emotions.
"Asra! Are you done yet? The wedding is about to start!" Nadia's shrill voice cuts through like hot butter through a knife, and Asra straightened up.
He takes it one step at a time, feeling as if there were nails pushing into the bottom of his feet with each one. And he pulls open the curtains, hands heavy as lead. The white haired magician sighs to himself softly.
Nadia is greeted by Asra, who had a soft smile plastered onto his face accompanied by a light natural blush.
"Yes, I'm done."
-
"Asra!" The woman sprints full speed towards her master, embracing him in a bear like hug. And when she finally pulls away, Asra is faced with the same eye smiles that he fell in love with.
She holds a bouquet full of different coloured flowers and some exotic plants, specially picked out by Muriel, and tonight she dons a beautiful white, dazzling gown given with love from Nadia.
Asra feels himself melting into putty in her arms and under her gaze already.
Nonetheless, Asra puts himself back together and captures her petite hands into his slightly larger ones. He flashes her a warm grin as his eyes fill with love for her. "You look amazing tonight. "
"I know." Her soft giggle echoes through the quiet room, and Asra doesn't feel as out of place as he did earlier. "Listen..."
The bride looks down earnestly and squeezes Asra's hands, rubbing small, soothing circles onto the back of his hand like she always did back at the shop whenever Asra didn't feel so good emotionally.
"Yes?"
She looks up. "Thank you."
"For what? You deserve the world."
She does, she deserves the world, she deserves this happiness.
But what about him?
"You know, everything you did. Taking me in for the past few years, guiding me in my journey and... reviving me, although I never will know how." The ivory haired man feels his mouth go dry, replaced by a horrible sour taste, the insides of his stomach churn away at nothing sickeningly like it was trying to eat itself inside out.
"It's... It's a secret." He winks at her playfully.
"Haha. Do tell me your secrets one day, magician." The brunette rolls her eyes back teasingly.
And for the last time, Asra drinks up the sight before him. The last moments before she isn't his anymore, the last moments she will feel like his. Asra doesn't think that his heart has the capacity to love anyone else after this. How could he? 10 years with the love of his life, overflowing adoration and pure love that led him to sacrifice a part of himself, and now he's getting thrown back into an abyss he hasn't missed. As much as Asra hates to admit it, he's afraid of being lonely for the rest of his life. Afraid that he would never find the one. Afraid that the next person he found would be just like her, just not meant to be.
He quickly lets go of her silky hands, and nervously checks his watch.
"It's almost time. Let's go, you wouldn't want to keep Julian waiting, would you?"
