Slender -
Imagine a warm, cozy room. Candle flames dance and dimly illuminate your surroundings, a soft heat emanates from the fireplace in front of you. Curled up on the couch you sit, reading a book and taking a sip from the tea you prepared. Sounds pretty perfect huh? Well, it's time to wake up to reality, you dingus.
Right now you're on a cryptid hunt, something you enjoy doing regularly. Vast acres of forest surround your house, some might find such a thing scary but you always found it exciting. Even if you never returned with any solid evidence you still had a great time going around and exploring nature.
However, this night took an unexpected turn. Clouds rolled over the moon and your old, dinky flashlight did little to light up your path. Silently cursing yourself for not charging your phone last night, you did your best to press on. Soon, you find yourself hopelessly lost among trees that looked so familiar yet so foreign. The air that surrounds you was cold and biting, giving off a vibe that you shouldn't be here. Not expecting for the night to turn so cold so quickly you never thought to bring a jacket, leaving you to suffer the chill. Not even seeing your own breath cheered you up like it usually does. You simply couldn't muster the energy to play dragon right now, you had to focus on getting the hell out of here.
"I knew I should've replaced this thing already.. crap," You muttered under your breath, rubbing your arms to try and get warm, "When did July get so cold!"
To top off your suffering a dull headache formed in your head and you could feel a trickle in your nose that usually signified a nose bleed. A groan escaped your throat as you just know you'll wake up with a cold in the morning and have to call in sick. After nearly bumping into a tree for the sixth time you decided to take a break and collect whatever bearings you could. You rummage through your bag briefly before pulling out your camera.
"Using the flash on this might be better than the flashlight, I guess. Worth a try at least." at first the flash was a jarring bright light, but after a couple of test shots, you confirmed this would be way more helpful. Sighing you continued on reluctantly, things wouldn't get any better if you stayed and it was far too cold to set up camp. It was at times like these you wished you weren't broke so you could have fancy things like a night vision camera, but this whole cryptid thing was a hobby and you simply couldn't afford it.
At one point you stumbled upon something strange that you've never seen before, a paper taped to one of the trees you got a bit closer and took another picture to see it better and contemplate taking it along with you. The decision was made when you heard footsteps a bit closer than what you would consider comfortable. You took a photo in that direction and ultimately saw nothing everything at that moment was silent. When the footsteps sounded again, this time with a bit more urgency you booked it in the opposite direction.
You were so focused on getting away from whoever the hell was in these woods with you, you hardly noticed that.. thing. It was like a man, but everything about it seemed so wrong. Thankfully you had stopped a few feet away from it to catch your breath, but you realized the air felt worse. Trying to capture anything around you with another photo. Unfortunately for you the flash you mustered only displayed it for a split second before shrouding you in darkness yet again, but something was 100% there. Your once dull headache flared into excruciating pain causing you to stumble to your knees using one hand to support your weight and the other to keep the camera up. A wet drip on your hand made you jolt as you quickly took another picture, seeing blood. Static filled your brain and balance grew more difficult. Before you could process anything else you passed out and the next thing you knew..
You woke up at home on your bed, remembering very little from the previous night. The bad feelings you had no longer existed, the only proof you didn't just go to bed last night was the explorer clothes you would never sleep in and whatever was on your camera. There was no time for that now as you had to get your job, but you had to wonder what you would find when you come home.
