I sat next to Jughead as Kevin put together the murder board. This is how my dad had his Jason Blossom murder board before it was trashed." Kevin said and I nodded, "Any leads on who did that?" I asked and Jug added, "Or what they were looking for?"

"Nope. No fingerprints. But they stole a bunch of files, background checks, and all the video and audiotapes of police interviews." Kevin told us as the door opened and Trevor walked in. "Hey, Betty" he spoke. "Trev, hi!" She smiled, "Sorry to interrupt,"

"Oh, no Uh, it's okay. We're just, uh, working on.." Jug cut betty off, "- Our murder board." He nodded, "Well, I just wanted to make sure we're still on for tomorrow?" He asked her, "Absolutely, it's a date. I mean, I'll I'll see you there. Bye." She smiled brightly, "So, I'll see you.
Bye."

I oooed making her look at me, "Going on a date with Trev? Does Mama Cooper know about that?" I asked, "Eve, I'm not on house arrest..." she trailed off before saying, "Okay, she's out of town at a Women in Journalism spa retreat. Anyway, it's not a date."

"You just called it a date. You literally said, "It's a date."" Jughead said, "That's just my cover. Really, it's an intelligence gathering mission. We should focus on the one thing we have access to that your dad doesn't.
The kids at Riverdale High.
You know, maybe Trev knows something about Jason he didn't think was important." I nodded before mumbling, "And have Jughead get jealous." Making him elbow me as I chuckled.

My phone buzzed and I looked down at the tooth emoji.

Morning beautiful. 😍

Morning💙

I locked my phone as the bell rang.
——
I stood at my locker, as Cheryl walked over to me. "Everleigh." She said and held up a black envelope. "Mother told me not to invite you but, I need a favor." She started and I raised an eyebrow. "How would you like a sleepover? Me you and Veronica. Please say yes." she practically begged and I smiled. "Course Cheryl." I said taking the envelope from her pale fingers, "I'll be there." I confirmed my arrival as the bell rang.

-----

Veronica sat next to Cheryl, as I sat across from Veronica with Nana Rose beside me. Clifford and Penelope sat at the heas of the table. "Thank you for having me." Veronica said and I nodded as I kept stuffing ham in my mouth. "Cheryl invited you. I have no idea why you're here." Penelope Blossom sneered making me bite my lip softly. "Me neither. I thought there'd be other girls than Everleigh." Veronica called out.

"Nana Rose, would you like some more ham?" Clifford asked but after receiving no answer he asks, "Everleigh. Veronica, would you like some more maple ham?" I smiled and asked, "Yes please." He cut me a piece and turned to Veronica who said, "I'm good. It's delicious, though. You can really taste the maple."

"You do know that Riverdale was founded on the maple syrup industry." Clifford asked and I bit my tongue so I didn't speak out of turn. "I didn't, actually. Fascinating." Veronica answered."That's where Sweetwater River got its name. Perhaps you should ask your father about it, sometime. How is he, by the way?" Clifford asked, Hiram Lodge alledged embezzeler and money fraud criminal in jail.

My aunties say its no surprise like they know him. "Okay. There are worse things than prison." Veronica said, and Cheryl then whispered, "Like this dinner party."

"What did you say? Hmm." Penelope snapped, "It must have been hard for you. Watching your father being handcuffed and dragged out of your home in front of you and your neighbors. All those reporters." Clifford asked Veronica. "The worst part is how fast it happened. He was just, gone. I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. That's why I think it's so great. You're all getting a chance to say goodbye to Jason tomorrow." Veronica answered.

"Not all of us." Cheryl told us. "That's because some people already got to say goodbye to Jason. While rowing him across the river to his death." Penelope snapped and I stayed silent as I continued to eat.

--
Veronica and I sat on Cheryl's bed as we looked through her scrapbooks. " I hope this isn't weird, but Jason was crazy handsome." I said and Cheryl turned to us, "The handsomest. Something tells me he would've liked you both." I smiled as Veronica asks, "Why did you invite me tonight? Why not Tina? Or Ginger? Aren't they your besties?" Cheryl sighed softly, "And yet, that night at the pep rally, after I had my panic attack, you helped me. Not them."

"Cheryl." Veronica spoke before continuing, "You're allowed to say goodbye to your brother. But, why does it have to be.." Cheryl cut her off, "In front of people?" Veronica nodded, "Yeah."

"Everything with Jason's been so Public. Everyone has an opinion. Has been gossiping. Saying he got what he deserved, or that he didn't. I just I want everyone to know that I'm I'm sorry. And that Jason deserved a A better family than what he got." Cheryl said and I smiled brightly, "Then do it. Roni and I will help you. And let Penelope and Clifford Blossom do their worst." I spoke and Veronica agreed. "Oh, they will. They'll kill me."
---

I stood in my funeral dress as Jughead and Betty walked in. I whistled and Jughead rolled his eyes at me making me laugh. I went to the bathroom and came out as it started. I quickly took my seat next to Jughead, as Cheryl walked out in a white dress.

"Oh, my God..." I mumbled. "Yes." Kevin called out, "Welcome to Thornhill.Thank you all for coming. If you'll kindly take your seats.I'd like to start the memorial with a few words about Jason." Cheryl said starting and Penelope went to get up and turned to Veronica and I. "You are only going to make things worse." I whispered and she glared at me.

"The last time I saw Jason, I was wearing this dress.I know it's impossible. But I swear, when I put it on, it It feels like he's in the room with me.Even though we were twins, I used to demand I have my own birthday party.Until one year, out of the blue, Jason convinced me we had to combine them into one.It wasn't until years later, I found out why.It was because no one wanted to come to mine. And Jason didn't want me to know.He protected me.Every single day.I wish, that day at the river, I had protected him. I'm so sorry, Jay-Jay.We failed you. All of us." Cheryl sobbed on Jason's coffin and I sighed getting up. I walked over and pulled her to me as she cried on my shoulder. "I think we'll adjourn now to the Winter Salon for a light supper." Penelope said into the mic as I sighed consoling Cheryl.
-
I got back home and groaned plopping on the couch. Ghost meowed and jumped up making me smile. "How was the Blossoms?" Aunt Hilda asked coming in. "Oh Auntie. I'm so glad you guys love and took us in. Thank you." I said and she was taken back but smiled a little. "No problem honey," she said and smiled leaving me by myself.

"I just spent the last 24hrs in the horror that is Cheryl Blossoms life, Ghost, Can we go up and watch a movie?" I asked and Ghost meowed making me laugh. "Yes you can pick this time." I said as he got down and we rushed up the stairs.

Every town has one. The house on the haunted hill all the kids avoid. Now that Jason was buried in the earth, it would only be a matter of time until something poisonous bloomed. In that long, cold shadow cast by his death. Whatever grew in the rich black soil of the Blossom's garden always found its way to the town.
Whether it was murder. Or love. Or secrets. Or lies.
