School ended as I rushed home. My heart pulsed with excitement and adrenaline as I hurried up to my room. The empty house echoed with the sound of my bag hitting the ground, and then the sound of my pacing feet. Should I call her on Skype now? Is it too soon? Will she think I'm desperate? What if I wait until later? What if I wait too long and she thinks I blew her off or forgot? I stare at my computer screen, then reach my fingers into my pockets. Erinboolian.

I sighed as I waited about ten minutes. Then, I took my seat and opened up Skype. I typed in her contact as I stared at it. It was definitely her. Quickly, I clicked on her contact and added her. It wasn't long before the notification came up that she added me too. I wiped the idiotic smile off my face. With a breath, I hit video call.

"Hey Justin," Erin greeted cheerfully.

"Hey Erin."

"So, just a question, why do your friends call you by your gamer name?"

"A couple of years ago we were hanging out and one of them accidentally called me by my IGN. After that, it sort of stuck. Same with Guu-Jason. See, almost did it there." She giggled slightly and I felt my heart skip a beat.

"Cool. Anyways, ready to play?"

"Yeah. Just give me a minute to log on." She nodded as I minimized Skype and loaded up the game. Once I was on, I went to find her. "What are your coordinates?"

"Uh... 80s, 28w." I nodded and checked the map, heading to the position she was at. Finally, I found her.

"There you are. Hi."

"Hi." We both laughed slightly and began to play the game.

The night passed quickly, filled with conversations, game play, and laughter. Lots and lots of laughter. Some of the stupidest things left us breathless for minutes at a time. Eventually, I heard a sound from my doorway. I didn't even need to look to see what it was.

"I gotta go. See you later." I made extra careful not to use her name. I shut off my computer and turned to face my mother.

"Justin, what in the world are you doing still up? It's midnight!"

"Sorry mom..." I mumbled.

"You will speak to me appropriately, young man."

"I apologize mother. I will go to bed."

"Good. You teenagers should not be up this late. It's a school night. Who were you talking to on there anyways?" I froze.

"Just a friend," I told her.

"Does this friend have a name?"

"Erin..."

"Erin? A girl Erin or boy Erin?"

"Girl...."

"Vechs, what are you doing talking to strange girls over the internet? You know how dangerous that is."

"Mom, she isn't a strange girl. I know her at school. We were talking over Skype."

"Fine. But don't get any ideas." With that, she left my room after turning off the light. I let out a sigh and changed into my pajamas. Climbing into bed, I crawled under the covers. Why did she think she could control my life when she was never here for it? What did it matter who I talked to?

Sleep covered my eyes, and I let myself doze off, pushing these thoughts out of my head.

I woke up in a cold sweat. My breathing heavy and my mind spinning. After looking around my room, I attempted to slow my speeding heart. It was just a dream. A crazy, intense, terrifying dream. She almost died. I almost lost her forever. It was almost my fault... I sighed and laid my head back on my pillow, before sitting up and realizing there was no way I was going back to sleep. Glancing over at my clock, I sighed once again. Three in the morning. Still a few more hours before school. I looked over at my computer. No way. That would only cause trouble.

My throat begin throbbing of dryness. I threw off the cover and made my way to the door. Slowly, I grabbed the door knob and pushed it open. It creaked threateningly. I cringed as I slid through the tiny opening in the door. Once I was out, I left the door to my room cracked open. I looked at the door straight across from mine. My eyes broke from it when I began my journey down the stairs.

Down the stairs and into the kitchen, my feet moved quick and smooth like a humanized cheetah. I opened up the cupboard and grabbed a glass. Even though I was tall and could completely reach the glasses, it was still dark. Grabbing one, I pulled it out, not realizing there was one under it. As I got the cup out, the one under it fell to the kitchen floor. The noise was enough to waken the dead, and my scream of pain didn't help any.

Footsteps raced down the stairs as I froze and bit my lip.

"Justin, what in the world are you doing?" She turned on the light and her face flushed of color. On the ground, shards of glass were scattered, some covered in crimson substance. Looking at my leg, she saw the multiple pieces of glass stuck inside of it, and the lingering shards that threatened to go into my foot. "I'm getting you to the hospital, now." Carefully, she grabbed my hand, after taking the cup and putting it on the counter, and guided me through the maze of pain.

"W-where's, ow, where's dad?" My leg stung more as I took each step.

"He fell back asleep. It's fine, just come on, we need to go." I could feel her hand shaking as she led me out the door and towards the car. "Just don't touch your leg, and don't touch your leg to anything." Why had I chosen to wear shorts to bed? I simply nodded, biting my lip again, and carefully climbed into the car.

My mom was clearly nervous as she rushed my to the hospital. It almost made me smile, to see how much she truly cared. Three thirty in the morning and here she was, taking me to the hospital.

I would have been able to be happy if the pain was not immense.

It took ten minutes to get to the hospital, whereas it usually took fifteen. She opened up my door and guided my out. Once the door was closed, she led me to the building. The night sent shivers into me skin, and caused the stinging in my leg to grow once more.

"Help. My son was getting a glass out of the cupboard and one dropped. He has glass stuck in his leg. Please, help." The woman nodded and called for someone. When they came in, I was led into a room. A white room where I was told to lay on the bed and not touch my legs. I closed my eyes to help seize the pain. Still, I felt a cold liquid being put onto the areas where glass stuck out, before feeling a burning pain in my leg. I shut my eyes tighter and closed my mouth harder, yet it didn't distract from the pain. Still, I hardly felt them pulling the glass from my leg.

"Alright, now I"m going to wrap your leg. Keep this wrap on for a few days. It will keep these cuts from getting infected." I nodded as I felt tightness against my leg. Once we were finished, I sat up and saw the white gauze I had on. It was a bit weird to walk, yet I knew I could get used to it. My mom was there to walk me back to the car. Four fifteen in the morning, and here she was, driving me home.
