Life was hard for Victoria Barnes from the beginning. Her Father was caught up in political ties and her mother always busy with little time to spend with her daughter. Hydra seemed to make this worse.
At six years, Vic was taken. Trained under the supervision of the greatest fighters within the organization. It was rough, but she managed to get through every day. Even after she met the Winter Soldier. The two eventually were working with each other inside of the facility. Many of the agents working could tell that something was starting to form between the two. They found ways to separate them, but it only worked for days at a time before the two found each other again.
When S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived to take the two in, everything changed. The Soldier took the child in as his own while the girl moved to become an agent. That was the day Vic promised the world that no one would hurt anyone else the way Hydra had hurt her. She wouldn't rest until the weak and innocent were safe from harm. Her beliefs lead her to meet the person she felt a true connection to. The only person she felt that she would ever love. James Rogers, son of the great Captain America, a person Vic thought would be far different from her, knew the pain she had felt. A new page in the girl's life opened, and for the first time in many years, she felt happy. She felt a sense of belonging. She felt loved.
But what if Hydra took a stand? What would happen to the Winter Soldier and the girl he called his daughter? What would happen to the intricate web fate had spun for her?
This is the story of an alternate future for the young Victoria Barnes. A Victoria Barnes who was loyal and obedient to Hydra and never wavered from her duty to them. This is the story of Laika Schmidt.
