I'm pacing my bedroom floor, my mind replaying everything that has happened in the last half hour. Max is laying on my bed, one arm resting under his head to prop it up. "We need to find out how to stop them. They can't get away with this," I say.
"I know," Max says.
"This is crazy," I groan, stating the obvious.
"I know," Max repeats.
"Max, how are you so calm about all of this?" I ask, stopping to look at him. I'm not mad at him for not being as worried about the hybrids we met as I am, but I'm also genuinely curious how he doesn't look like he's affected by this at all.
He shrugs in response to my question. "I just am." He sits up and moves to the end of the bed, reaching for my hand and pulling me to him. I'm standing in between his legs, his arms are wrapped around my back, and I pull him close to me and rest my cheek on the top of his head. Because he's sitting on my bed, he's the perfect height for me to do this comfortably. It's over too soon though, but he keeps his hands planted on my hips. I let my arms dangle loosely around his neck. "Everything's going to be fine, B. We'll find a solution and it will all work out."
"You don't know that, though," I say quietly, resting my forehead against his.
"You know what I do know?" The tone in his voice makes it so obvious on where he's planning to take this, and I can't resist the smoldering look in his dark eyes.
"What do you know?" I respond, hearing my voice drop down a notch. His eyes darken just barely, and I smirk.
"I know," he begins, moving his hands to the back of my thighs, "that I love you with every bone in my body." He pulls one of my legs up beside him, and then lifts my other leg up so I'm straddling him. I move my hands to either side of his face, staring into his eyes with just as much intensity in his own.
"Oh do you now?" I tease, my voice barely above a whisper. I know it's driving him crazy, and I get a high feeling of satisfaction that it takes next to nothing to get him going like this.
"Yeah, I really do," he says, and he tries to pull my face in towards his. I pull back though, the smirk on my face growing. He looks a little taken aback that I didn't go along with his plan, but he quickly conceals the look of surprise.
"You changed the topic," I point out, still smirking. I'm not mad at him for trying to distract me, but I'm also not going to let him distract me right now.
"You're right," he smiles.
"I'm serious, Max," I say, changing my tone. I love him with my whole entire heart, but my mind is consumed with worry at the time being. I won't be able to relax until we figure out where to go from here. "What can we do?"
He doesn't respond right away, but I watch the look in his eyes go from playful to serious. He finally realized how worried I actually am about this. I'm still straddling him, but I relax and lean back a little as we think.
We're both quiet for a while. My mind is racing trying to find out what we should do, but I don't come up with anything. I hate feeling like this: knowing I have to do something about this but not knowing what to do. It makes me feel like I'm hopeless.
"What if we try and find where their base is?" Max asks.
"How? It could be anywhere," I respond.
"We do our best to track them, then," Max says. "With the combination of werewolf and vampire in our blood, our tracking abilities are practically unlimited. All of our senses are heightened."
"They're hybrids too, though. They could have done something to conceal their tracks," I point out.
"We'll figure that out when and if it happens," Max sighs. "B, we just found out about them. We have to try and find out as much as we can before we really form a plan and put it into action."
I run my hands through my hair and sigh. "I know. I just can't stop worrying about it."
"Why don't we go out tonight," Max smiles. "We can get all dressed up and go to really fancy restaurant."
"You mean, like, a date," I say dramatically, throwing a hand over my heart.
"Yeah, a date," Max says, his smile widening. "It's about time I take my girl out on a proper date."
"Your girl?" I say, raising an eyebrow but not being able to stop the smile from spreading across my face. Inside my mind, I'm begging him to call me his girl again. I think hearing the man you love call you his girl is enough to make any woman weak at the knees. I push myself up from where I was sitting so I'm slightly taller than him, and he grasps his hands on my hips.
"Yeah, my girl," he says proudly. I tangle my hands in his hair as he continues. "She's super hot, the sweetest person I've ever met, amazing in bed, and did I mention hot?"
"I think you did," I grin, leaning in and pressing my lips to his.
I move my hands to the hem of his shirt and pull it over his head, finding his lips again not even a second later. We part one more time when my shirt comes off, and then Max falls back onto the bed and pulls me with him.
He slides my shorts down my legs and I kick them off, and I don't waste any time on pulling his down too. I kiss my way back up his body, and a groan escapes his mouth that turns me on even more than I already was.
"Fuck, B," he whispers huskily. I kiss up his neck and along his jawline, finally meeting his lips once again.
"So what do you say about that date. You never gave me an answer," Max teases against my lips. I pull back and grin at him.
"I thought the answer was obvious, dummy," I laugh, gently smacking him. "Of course I'm not going on a date with you!"
Suddenly I'm flipped onto my back and Max is hovering on top of me, his face not even an inch away from mine. If I could stare at his face all day, I would. Especially his eyes. God, his eyes are so sexy. I think they're my favorite part of his face.
"Are you sure about that?" he asks quietly, his voice suddenly a few octaves lower. If I wasn't already lying on the bed with no effort, I would have dropped or fallen from wherever else I was.
"Sure about what?" I ask innocently, trailing the tip of my finger along his abs. I feel his body shiver under my touch, and I see the look in his eyes. He's trying not to show it, but he's barely holding it together right now. I love how easy it is for me to affect him this badly.
"Are you sure you won't be going on a date with me?" His voice cracks at the end as I trail my fingers lower and lower, and I can't help but to smile in satisfaction.
"I think my mind could be changed." He slams his lips onto mine, and I let everything I'm feeling take over.
I don't think about the fact that any one of my family members could walk in at any given moment, or the fact that there is any army of hybrids out there right now planning to take over our worlds. None of that matters right now.
Just Max.
