He waited and made sure everyone was completely asleep before opening his door and stepping out fully dressed. Every step down the hall was slow and light, except for the one floor broad that creaked slightly. Alexei froze and held his breath, waiting for someone to come out and catch him red handed in the act, but no one came. He breathes out in relief and continues on downstairs.
"Okay, it's just an easy task. Walk the path, down the slope, to the traps and get the knife. Just an easy task..." Alexei tells himself as he pulled on the boots, "...an easy task. Easy and simple." Alexei reaches up and pulls down the blue scarf, trying to tie it into a suitable knot. But that proved to be difficult with shaky hands. Alexei wasn't a rebellious kid, but he wasn't an alter boy either. He had his "moments"(all his sisters had their moments) but they were never on the level of sneaking out of the house at night, with no permission or supervision. Which was absolutely forbidden.
"...walk the path, down the slope, go to the traps and get the knife. As long as I make it back before everyone wakes up, I can pass it off--"
"Pass what off?"
Alexei shrieks and jumps, dropping his scarf and turning around to face Anastasia, who was rubbing her tired eyes. "An-Anastasia, why are you up so late?"
"I should be asking you that and why are you dressed?" Anastasia interrogates.
Alexei sighs, there was no use in lying. He was caught..and he was bad liar anyway. "I'm...I'm going back to get Olga's knife."
Anastasia was wide awake now, "You're going back to the woods? At night? Without permission or supervision? Alexei, are you out of your mind?! Do you know what's out there at this time of night!"
"I know!" Alexei responds, "but I have to fix my mistake and please don't try to stop me,Tasia." He picked up the fallen scarf and hastily ties it before walking to the door, but is stopped by the arm. "Tasia, I just said--"
"This is completely impulsive, suicidal, dangerous, straight out of the head of a jackass. But most of all..." Anastasia leans in, "...it's stupid." Alexei glares at her and she returns the stare. The pairs of deep blue were locked in an intense staredown. It's broken when Alexei is let go and is turned baffled at his sister going to put on her boots. "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Anastasia goes for her coat next, "I'm coming with you."
"You are?!" Alexei was sure that once Anastasia saw he wasn't backing down she was going to bust her lungs, screaming and telling the family he was planning to sneak out. "...but why?"
"Why? Come on, Alex. Don't ask obvious questions with obvious answers." Anastasia picks up her quiver and crossbow, "You're my little brother. And even though you're a pain and annoying at times, I have to make sure you're safe. What? Did you think I would tattle?"
Alexei nods and Anastasia laughs, "Come on, Alex? Why would I tell? We're a team, remember? Anastasia and Alexei, the A-Team forever."
When Alexei did have adventures of mischief, majority of them involved Anastasia, and vice versa. They were masterminds when it came to practical jokes and little schemes. The name was plain and unoriginal, but it fit since both their names began with A. "Yeah, A-Team forever!"
"Good. Now let's get that knife."
_________________Walking through the woods at night definitely felt different. Even with his sister by his side, the young sirius still didn't feel safe. He felt too open and vulnerable, even more from walking in the back. "Alex!"
Alexei looks around, scared and confused for a split second before realizing where they were. Anastasia had slid down the snowy slope where he broke off earlier. "Come on, don't lag too far behind. And this is your mission and you said you wanna get back before everyone wakes up, right?"
