aka an appreciation for taylor swift's new album
there were very intense storms last night, and it was just past eleven when i refreshed my youtube home page to see the music video for taylor swift's 'lover' which had came out earlier in the day. it was then i realized, koh, it's the 23rd on the east coast, that means her album is out'. and so, i opened spotify, eyed the prospect of staying up until nearly one to get through all 18 songs, and decided fuck it, why not. so, clicking play on the first track and letting the music mix with the roars of thunder outside, i... fell asleep.
yeah, it's not as cinematic as i can make it sound. i'm traumatized from nighttime thunderstorms growing up (thanks, tornado alley), so i basically just shook with my head covered so i couldn't see the lightning through my windows until i dozed off to london boy. however, i did wake up again and finish it sometime after one.
i knew i wanted to make a wattpad chapter with my favorite line from each song, and since my s/mb on my main is, well, currently non-existent, this account is my victim 😈 some songs i just don't have a favorite, however, so i'm leaving them out.
I Forget That You Existed:
"i forgot that you existed
and i thought that it would kill me, but it didn't"Cruel Summer:
"said i'm fine, but it wasn't true
i don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you"Lover:
"we could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January
this is our place, we make the rules"The Archer:
"all of my enemies started out friends"Paper Rings:
"i like shiny things, but i'd marry you with paper rings"Cornelia Street:
"and baby, i get mystified by how this city screams your name
and baby, i'm so terrified of if you ever walk away"Death By A Thousand Cuts:
"but if the story's over, why am i still writing pages?"Soon You'll Get Better:
"i hate to make this all about me
but who am i suppose to talk to?
what am i suppose to do
if there's no you?You Need To Calm Down:
"stressing and obsessing 'bout somebody else is no fun"Daylight:
"you gotta step into the daylight and let it go"my favorite song is lover and my favorite lyric is the last one. the sequence of the last few songs, from 'afterglow' to 'it's nice to have a friend' to 'daylight' is... wow. i'm so in love with it.
obviously nothing is perfect, and i do have my criticisms, but they're small. it's more about half the songs having a very generic pop sound that i can't set apart from everything else on the radio, plus some of the song placements in the album not sounding quite right (high energy pop to a slow ballad to high energy pop again). but those are small and i think everything else is perfect. i've needed music like this for a while.
that's all i've got. i'll see you soon i guess? i turn 17 in three and a half weeks 😬 so knowing me i'll have some existential rant i wanna write or smth.
take care lovelies,
