Zayn’s perspective:

I got out of my not so fantastic hiding spot and walked right out to the meadow towards her.

“Hi,” I said. “I’m sorry for spying, I didn’t mean to, I was just out for a walk and I heard you.” I gave her a shy smile, this was not a situation I was use to, plus Jesse really made my shy.

“I’m sorry.” She said, I was now close and her deep blue eyes looked into my soul.

“What?” I had no idea what she was talking about. Wasn’t it me that was suppose to apologize for spying on her?

“I’m sorry that you heard me singing.” She said, not looking at me anymore. She seemed embarrassed.

“You were wonderful, your voice is wonderful - why would you ever apologize?” She watched me with an intense look as if she looked for signs of lies in my face.

“Okay. Whatever, as if you would tell the truth.” She said. What did she mean by that?

“I am.”

“Yeah, right…” She said still doubting me and looking away once again. This girl had some serious problems with her confidence. I dropped the subject because I knew I wouldn’t be able to make her believe.

“Jesse, I’m curious,” I begun as I sat down on the stone right next to her. “Why have I only heard bad things about you? Why did you ask me to stay away from you? What have you done wrong?”

“I haven’t done a single shit. I’m just living my life and there’s a few people destroying it for me.”

“What do you mean?”

“You’re new here so you’ve only heard their version of it… Most of it is just lies. If you’re up for a long story then I can tell you.” She didn’t look at me; instead she avoided all kinds of contact.

“I’ve got all day.” I said honestly, all my friends had left the camp for the day so I had no where to be.

“I don’t but I’ll tell you anyway.” She said and I smiled a little at that she was playing hard to get. “Are you sure you want to hear it?” She asked another time just to be sure.

“Yes!” I burst out of impatience.

“Okay.” She finally gave in and she also gave me a little smile. “Let’s start when I first came to this camp when I was eleven years old. At home I had a lot of friends. It was when you were friends with everyone in school. I always wanted to be an actor so my mum set me up with this camp. My mum flew with me here and spent the first few days with me. My roommate was Tracy and after my mum left Tracy cut her acting and turned herself against me. She was a bitch already then and she did everything to set me up. She accused me of all kinds of things. And like she still does, she spreads a lot of rumours and other crap to everyone else at camp. If someone talks to me she makes sure that that they get accused of things too and gets thrown out of camp.”

“It was Tracy who made everyone boo at you at the introduction?”

“Yes, it was all one her. She thinks she controls everyone and she actually does.”

“What’s it like at home, in Sweden?”

“Same. No friends.” Her voice was thick as if she was about to cry.

“Why? I think you’ve a lovely personality. And you’re gorgeous.” I said honestly with a smile but she didn’t meet my eyes.

“I don’t know… now tell me, why you are talking to me?” She dropped the conversation and now she finally looked at me for real.

“I told you I ended up here when I was on a walk.” I knew what she really meant; that I was mean to her after the introduction.

“Yeah, but why are you talking to me. You swore to Tracy to never talk to me again.”

“Yes, but what am I suppose to say to idiots like that? I feel really bad for saying that to you but I just wanted her to leave me alone.” I explained. “I’m sorry Jesse, I didn’t mean it.”

She didn’t forgive me but we ended up talking about all sorts of things and the time flew by. I enjoyed every second that I spent with her. I couldn’t believe it myself but after knowing her for a week, I had already fallen for her. Bad. There were a few minutes during our conversation that I just wanted to lean forward and kiss her but I stopped myself.

“I have to go.” She got up and picked up her guitar-case.

“Where you going?”

“Going to see Mrs. Howard. I’m hungry for lunch and we have a meeting.” Why was she eating with Mrs. Howard? Couldn’t she eat lunch with the rest of the kids that stayed on the camp? Were Tracy and her friends going to harass her in the cafeteria?

“Okay, have fun.” I said waving to her as she left. “Oh and Jesse?” I started but she cut me off.

“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone that you talked to me. You can ignore me all you want.” She said and I let out a loud sigh. I didn’t want to deny to anyone that I liked her but I had to.

“Bye. I’ll see you here again soon I guess.” She smiled at me and I took that as a sign that she wanted to meet me again too.

That smile… it made me crazy. How was I supposed to be able to stay away from her until I saw her again.
