The other dogs barked and howled. They were excited to start training. I just waited for the alpha to hurry up and actually get there. It took a while, but finally she did. Sometimes I wish she never came.
"Hello dogs, I'm Snowy," said the grey and white dog. "I'm your alpha. Please follow me to the start of the track."
She seemed nice. I was wrong.
We got to the start of the track and she started assigning the dogs on the team a place. Many couldn't seem to listen or go to their spots. Snowy disliked this.
"Snow Star! Get in your spot!" Snowy practically screamed.
"No. Stand right HERE!" she shouted at another dog.
I waited for my spot assignment and stood perfectly the first try. I wasn't messing around.
And neither was the dog next to me.
"Hello," he said. "I'm Tundra."
"I'm Blizzard."
"Nice to meet you."
"You too."
We were instant friends. He wasn't the best at running fast or races, but he tried hard and followed directions. Both of us even concluded that Via, the second in command to Snowy, was the better leader. She never seemed to lose her calm. I'd later find out she had a worse temper when she was mad.
Many dogs left at the end. They were no good and didn't want to be on the team. Tundra and I on the other hand, approached Snowy at the end.
"We'd like to come back and be part of the team," I told her and Via.
They welcomed us. We came back many times and formed new friendships with other dogs that I'll have to save for other times. Tundra and I grew very close. As friendships came and went, loyalties formed and destroyed, Tundra and I were always there for each other. Even though we were opposites, we were the best of friends. Through fights and peace, we stood by each other. As sled dogs disappeared completely and came back, we were together. Through all the pain and heartbreak and chaos, we were...
