Snowy and Via fell far from the friendship they had when I first started sledding. Via broke off and formed her own pack, really making Snowy mad. Via could care less what Snowy thought, and the beginning of the wars to come started.
Via didn't mine playing the villain. She looked the part too. Her glossy black top coat and dove white undercoat had a contrast, drawing eyes to her. Her curled antlers and fiery red eyes practically shouted to not mess with her. Snowy paid no mind to this and worked her pack hard to beat Via.
I always was polite to Snowy, tried to please her when I could, but I honestly preferred Via and spent more time with her. Via took me under her wing. Snowy took Sapphire under her wing. We became rivaling packs.
One day, Via told me she had a plan. We were going to ambush Snowy and Sapphire. I agreed to join her. Maybe I should have. Maybe I shouldn't have.
We sniffed the air and set off in the direction of their scents. It lead us to a beautiful, lush green land with a waterfall and small lake. The water sparkled like thousands of grinded up cyan crystals. Everything smelt fresh and clean. Except for the undeniable scent of Snowy and Sapphire. We watched and waited before making our presence known. We stayed downwind so that they wouldn't catch our scent and barely breathed.
Finally the moment came. We sauntered up to them with little evil smirks on our faces.
"Well hello there, Snowy," Via greeted.
"Via..." Snowy growled in a warning tone.
"Nice to see you here, Sapphire," I chuckled.
"What do you want?" she snarled.
"We just want..." Via trailed off.
We lunged at them. Via flying at Snowy and me at Sapphire. Their eyes widened in shock, for they were not expecting an attack. We lunged at their necks and they scurried back. The battle was a bloodbath. The bright green grass was stained with crimson. The battle slowly shifted towards the lake. The waters wouldn't been so blue and clean for long. Via tackled Snowy and then there was a splash. Red quickly spread through the water. Sapphire and I rolled into the water not long after and the lake was tainted with our blood. Via and I had strategized. Leave them no breath to call for backup. That job became a lot easier in the water. After many turns of everyone being dunked and gasping for breath. The battle came to a close. Via held Snowy underwater until the group of bubbles floated up from her mouth and her body went limp. I did the same with Sapphire, claws digging into her neck.
It was over. I panted exhaustedly and looked over at Via for approval. She was smiling.
"I've never seen you fight so well," she complimented.
"Thank you," I managed.
"Let's go. Our job is done here."
"Ok. Some rest sounds really good right about now."
We trudged away from the pure land we had laid waste with blood. Dried blood on the grass underneath our paws reminded us of our deed. We didn't look down. We had no guilt.
When we got back to our headquarters we tended to our wounds. We knew we would need to be at full strength for the hell that was coming. Their bodies would be found eventually and there would be some very unhappy dogs. They weren't dead of course. Not really. They had strong souls. Strong enough to come back. We of course knew this but the battle was satisfying.
I had no idea that other dogs would start to be wary around me. Even Tundra seemed a little scared. I reassured him that I would never hurt him. Dogs started to look at me the same way as Via. Some with awe and respect and others with hatred or fear. My rank had shot up on the sled dogs hierarchy, impressing many. I was proud of myself.
Then I had to meet her...
