We seemed to walk for hours on end, and with no forms of civilisation appearing before us our hope of getting out of here was getting slim. The only thing that stopped me from colapsing and crying endlessly was dean, I dont know how he does it. He stands stong and smiles assuringly everytime I look in his direction. A strong composure yet his eyes dont meet his stance. Wary and carfull, yet filled with love and fear. Mirroring my own feelings. The contence of my heart. Frail fragile heart.
It seemed were we're going the wrong way. The shrubbery got thicker with ever hour we walked, the trees seemed to reach higher and the ground beneath our sore feet roughened much to our dislike. The missery was endless.
"Babe where are we?" My soft voice was so quiet and weak it shocked me. Evidence to show how much the last two days had taken out of me, leaving me feeling sore tired and incredibly emotional.
"Honestly Isla if I knew I'd tell you." With a defeated sigh dean plopped himself down on the nearest rock, tossing the backpack roughly to the side in frustration.
"Maybe we should check if we have service yet?" I ask trying to sound enthusiastic for deans sake. If he doesn't keep strong there was no way I was going to make it through this alive.
With yet an other sigh dean nodded once before pulling the small black cell from his pocket an flipping it open. His eye brows instantly knitted together in a scowl. "What is it?"
"It's never going to be any use to us now... The battery died."
I felt the tears begin to rise as my shoulders slump in defeat. There goes our only form of communication, and most likely our ticket out of here. Sitting down slowly I tilted my head back towards the sky to prevent the tears from running down my face. How much longer could we injure this?
"Here, eat this. You look like your going to pass out." Looking down dean held an chunk of bread in his hand out stretched before me. A weak smile formed on my lips as my stomach growled in anticipation, making dean laugh.
"You eat something too, we have to keep our energy up." The bread was delicious, you never really appreciated food until you were on the brink of starving.
"We should probably get going by the looks of it we only have a few hours of sun left." With a quick look at the sky I saw what he meant, the light tinge of sunset orange began to show on the tips of the trees. "Yeah let's get going."
"You alright honey?" Deans voice called. We had been walking for two hours since we stopped for a break and my legs were in the verge of collapsing. "Im fine I just...OMPH!"Deans worried voice instantly called. "Isla are you ok?!"
I sighed. Thanks to my clumsiness I had fallen on my face with the aid of a old root. "Argh, ouch."
"Isla...maybe I should carry you for a bit." I dusted my self off, then suddenly something caught my eye. My blood ran cold. I couldn't speak. "Isla? What's wrong?" I felt dean shaking my shoulders gently yet I couldn't take my eyes off him. Lifting my hand slowly I pointed into the dark shrubbery.
A rough voice boomed from the shadows "Never can you run." Dean hastily shoved me behind him, shielding me from our hunters evil glare. "What do you want from us?!" Dean demanded. "That is for me to know and for you to discover boy." I gasped as he withdrew a black gun from his pocket and pointed it directly at dean. I cluched on the back of Deans shirt for dear life. "Say good night now boy." And with a sickling loud bang he fired.
"NO!!!" My loud shrills echoed off the surrounding trees as dean swayed to the side then fell with a loud thud to the forest floor. Dropping to my knees I Cradled his head in my hands. "Run..Isla..." he whispered as his eyelids drew to a close. I knew I promised him but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. "No. No ..no, Dean?! Wake up!" God no. He can't leave me like this he just can't.
A rough set of hands clutched my shoulders
and yanked me away from dean. "Let me go! You sick baste.." a clammy hand holding a damp cloth sodden with something toxic was shoved over my mouth clamping it shut. I struggled my muffled yells becoming weaker as I inhaled. "Sleep now my love." hot breath whispered into my ear. I felt my eyelids grow heavy yet I couldn't tear my eyes from dean. He lay still his chest rising slowly with each shallow breath. But the something caught my attention. Blood. There was no blood. Just a single dart sprouting from his chest.
"And now let the games begin." I heard, before my vision went black.
