I wake up to a phone vibrating underneath me. Immediately I know it isn't mine by the vibration pattern, I'm weird I know. Happiness floods over me as I open my eyes to see Jack sleeping peacefully next to me. As I fish out his phone, you know the one lodged between my hip and the bed, the screen lights up. It isn't an invasion of privacy if I didn't purposefully turn on the phone, right?
Gabriela: Lav says hi Daddy! We miss you and can't wait for you to come back!
My heart sinks. No. No? This is probably a friend joking around. It has to be. I sit up in disbelief, still gripping the phone in my hand.
"Good morning Madeleine," he whispers nudging his head into my side.
"Who is she Jack?" I say coldly.
He chuckles softly, "the muffin man." When I don't laugh in response, he sit up. "Who's who?"
I toss the phone in his lap. "Who is Gabriela and why is Lav saying "hi daddy"?"
"You went through my phone! I thought I could trust you!"
"TRUST ME? I THOUGHT I COULD TRUST YOU!" I'm practically screaming at this point.
The door, connecting the boy's room and ours, swings open. A exhausted looking Jonah stands in the door frame scratching the back of his neck. "Why are you yelling so early?"
I've scooted myself so far away from Jack that I'm practically off the bed at this point. "He was just about to tell me who Gabriela and Lav are!"
"I thought you knew?" Jonah half whispers, half mumbles.
I whip my head to look at Jonah. "You know about this?"
"Jack you said you told her. Tell her now, she deserves to know."
Jack tries to reach for my hand, but I pull it away. "Gabriela is my ex, the one that cheated on me."
"Why is she texting you about missing you then? And who is Lav?" My impatience seeps through.
He looks everywhere but my eyes, "Lavender is her daughter." He pauses and looks at me, "my daughter."
Tears start to tumble down my cheek. "No." I stand up and start to pace around the room, Jonah tries to comfort me but I pull away.
"I was trying to find a way to tell you," he pleads.
"Get out." Neither of them move, they just dart their eyes back and forth between each other and me. "I SAID GET OUT!" I watch as they both scramble towards the door, seconds later a knock comes from the main door. "Go away!"
"Madi, it's me Daniel. Let me in!" I sigh and open the door. His arms wrap around me immediately. "What's wrong?"
I start to hiccup from being so upset, "JaCk haS a kId."
"Madi," he sighs, sadness pours out of his mouth. "I told him he should have told you before."
"I'm going home."
I feel him nod slightly, "I understand. I can give you a key to the house."
"No Daniel, home home. I want to be normal again."
"Madi..."
I interrupt him before he can try to change my mind, "no daniel." In that moment, I learned you can see someones heart break through their eyes. I broke him. All he wanted was to protect me and have me with him. I ruined that. Jack ruined that.
"I know you well enough to know there's no changing your mind." I nod in response. "I'll go talk to Logan and have him book you a flight home. I'm sorry this is how everything turned out."
"I am too Daniel, I am too"
A/N Thank you so much for reading! I'm sorry for how long it took me to finish this. To be completely honest, this isn't the original ending I had for this story! Originally, I had planned on writing a sequel of them married with kids, but along this journey beautiful little Lavender was introduced to the world. I felt weird writing a story about him with someone other than Gabbie. So, I decided to end it.
