Flirting and misunderstandings

I'm back! A start of a new week for me. Since in my place it is the wee hours of monday and reading a book.

Max's POV

"Nevermind. See you soon.
- Zoe"

What was that? I shook my head and looked at my phone screen. Since Zoe texted me now, I half-heartedly checked her text this morning.

"I felt a pain on my stomach and I thought I was going to lose the baby Max.
- Zoe"

I swear my world stopped and my stomach fell from a deep pit. "Are you ok Mr. Taylor?" Ms. Hart touched my shoulder. Shit, what am I doing? Zoe was about to lose our baby and here I am fucking about to kiss her?

Raking my hair, "I have to get home" I said sternly. "To New York sir? Unfortunately you can't as of our situation here" she said to me, she was rubbing my back trying to comfort me. I looked back at her "stop. Call Tony I'm going back to my hotel Ms. Hart" I ordered. I can see that she was embarrassed with my rejection to her further advances, she was red all over her face.

"Right away. Mr. Taylor" she nodded and left the booth. We were outside and waited for Tony to arrive. The ride was silent, I was frantic inside I want to go home and see Zoe right now. I took my phone out and texted Zoe.

"I'm really sorry that I wasn't there. Are you alright?
- Max"

A tap on my leg snapped me back to my senses. "We are here at the hotel, Mr. Taylor" Ms. Hart spoke and I smiled back. I alighted from the car and said my goodbye to them then the car window went down. "Goodbye Mr. Taylor" I can see something brewing in Ms. Hart's eyes that I can not pinpoint.

I reached to my room and I was feeling restless. I took a hot shower, thinking that it will make the feeling go away but it didn't. I dressed to bed and lay down, starring at the ceiling. I have to come clean to Zoe when I get back and I have to make things clear between Ms. Hart and I. I have to finish my work, I cannot let her face this alone. I mentally prepared myself for work tomorrow and I waited for Zoe's reply but there wasn't and I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up early and dressed for work. I called for room service and ate my breakfast in a flash. I dialed Tony's number and called him "Good Morning Tony, please pick me up now. Thank you" after 10 minutes Tony arrived, he greeted me when he opened the door for me. I picked out my phone and texted Ms. Hart.

"I'm on my way now, bring me a coffee
- Mr. Taylor"

We reach the office in a matter of minutes and I was greeted by Ms. Hart with the coffee in her hands. "Good Morning Mr. Taylor! Ready to start work?" She said eyeing me. I nodded and we proceed to my office. "I want my meeting to be scheduled continuously and I want the jet to be ready anytime today" I ordered and Ms. Hart typed the information in her iPad.

I was cooped up in my office and the conference room the whole afternoon, finishing all of the work without any interruptions . "Shall we take a break Mr. Taylor?" I glanced up at Ms. Hart and she was standing in front of me. "Can you buy me anything for lunch? Thanks" I said and returned to my laptop. Her face was blank and left the room in a flash.

After half an hour Ms. Hart was placing my lunch. It was a steak with mash potato with salad. I mumbled a thank you and asked her to leave.

I was finished with my work and looked at my watch it was now 8:30 pm, I called for Ms. Hart to go in my office. I stood up and walked towards the window looking at the view. Zoe will like this view; the Chicago skyscraper. I remembered when she first went into my office. She was giddy like a toddler. I smiled with the memory. Maybe someday I will bring her here and watch her face lit up from the excitement. Wait what? Why am I thinking of bring Zoe here? she is not my girlfriend for Christsakes.
