Hey there, it's Rob here. I came up with the idea of this book because I have chronic pain and a disability and I believe it shouldn't define me. I believe that if you have pain, too, be it physical or emotional, it shouldn't define you, either. In each of the chapters ahead, one of our admins will talk about their experience with pain and their thoughts on it to help end the stigma. Please feel free to share your stories of pain in the comments.
With this in mind, this poem is by astrologiical that we feel fits the book's meaning.
You Are Not The Sum Of Your Parts by astrologiical
you are not the sum of your parts
you are not a moment frozen in time when you've wanted to restartyou are not a fragment of a day in your life
you are not when you've wanted to escape this strifenot the girl who broke your heart when you were just learning how to love
not the words that reminded you of hurt but you never wanted to let go ofnot the days you spent waiting in the rain for someone who never came
not the eternities looking out a window, wanting to die, filled with shameyou are all the kind words you've ever given and meant
all the times' someone's made you laugh, the love letters you've sent
all the songs you've ever listened to and all the books you've ever read
all of the long talks under the stars and all the right answers on a test
all the last-minute goals you've made and all the grains of beach sand under your toesone moment does not define you
you are who you want to be
