Daniel and I stared at the water apprehensively as Mr. Miyagi watches us from the beach "Learn balance. Go water, kick" the older man shouted behind us as I shiver at the thought of breaching the cold water.
Nudging my twin, I nodded towards the ocean, "You first," Daniel just stared at me looking equally as anxious.
"Learn balance" Mr. Miyagi prompted again as the two of us let out an in-sync sigh as we slowly stepped closer to to the body of water.
Moving forward, I heard Daniel whispering positive mantras to himself as I pouted, praying wasn't going to make this water any warmer.
"Holy shit" I squealed, grabbing onto my twin as he held onto me swearing just as loud when the waves rolled over our feet.
"I'm out!" I cried turning to run back to the beach before being caught by my brother "No way, I need you to get me through this" he pleaded as my skin started to grow small bumps all over it.
"ugh, fine" I groaned as we began wading deeper into the water still using words our Ma would tan our hides for.
After getting in about knee-deep, we both tried to keep our balance against the temperamental waves but between our lack of stability and our bodies shivering from the cold temperature we weren't doing so well.
"Stop!" Daniel shouted as we both knocked into each other "You pushed me!" I snapped back as we argued, there was no way we were going to do this without it leading to some type of dispute, but the more we fell the funny it became until we both crashed under the water.
Screaming loudly we both jumped up and began to splutter "That... was... your... fault" I breathed rubbing my arms as Daniel as tried to warm himself up, but I could see his lips trembling from the cold.
"You... pushed... me!" he retorted as I glanced over his shoulder seeing a lone figure balancing on a log stump.
Daniel turned too, and we both watched Mr. Miyagi practicing something where he lifts his arms and one leg but kicks with the other with perfect balance; he didn't wobble or fall off the stump once "Pftt show off" I joke as Daniel nudges me with a grin.
Biting my lip, I wonder if now is the right time to talk to my brother about my rekindling friendships and romance but seeing as we were both having a nice day and only play fighting for once I decided I wouldn't ruin it by bringing up something I knew would make us argue.
Walking towards the Japanese man I turned to my brother, "I could totally do that if I wanted to" I lied with a straight face knowing there was no way I could do that.
My twin grinned at me playfully "really?" he questioned as I glanced back over at the short man who was now walking towards us with our towels "Yeah, probably not."
My brother just let out a snort as we jogged over to Miyagi "nice balance, very good," he complimented as I began to wonder if he was secretly blind.
Or maybe he just had a very low expectation of us and was impressed when we did anything half decent.
"I am so cold" my teeth chattered together as the wind picked up before Miyagi quickly wrapped me in my towel "Thank you" I smiled softly as I leaned down for him to reach around me.
After giving Daniel his towel, we started back towards the car, "What were you doing on those stumps?" My brother asked as we stood either side of the older man "Called crane technique," he answered mysteriously.
"Does it work?" I asked intrigued he seemed to be perfect at this stuff, after all, he took on the whole Cobra Kai with no problem "If do right, no can defense" I blinked at his answer before looking over his head to my brother who stared back at me.
"Could you teach me?" My twin as the question I knew he was dying to know, a move that couldn't be defended against would be great for him, especially against the Cobra Kai, and my brother knew it.
"First learn stand, then learn fly." I grinned at the older man's blasé answer as Daniel just looked at him "Nature rule, Daniel-san, not mine," Miyagi said with a small grin of his own.
"Who taught you?" I questioned as Miyagi glanced at me softly "Father teach" I nodded with a small smile "You must have had some father" Miyagi nodded at me knowingly, but I wasn't going to ruin my day by thinking of my own father.
Stepping closer to the embankment to the road I noticed two guys sitting on Miyagi's truck laughing "What the hell is this" I breathed seeing the two of them drinking beer "Look, the kids got a pet Nip" once of them called out.
Feeling my blood boil I tried to keep quiet at racist jokes knowing Miyagi could handle himself "He know any tricks, kids?" the man called out to Daniel and me with a nasty grin as he moved off the car.
Mr. Miyagi calmly stood in front of us as he talked to the men "Excuse, please. Boy and Girl cold, must leave." the two men glanced at us over the older mans should, and I grimaced seeing the younger of the two winks at me.
"Kindly remove bottle," Miyagi asked nicely as the man in the red cap drained the rest of his beer before placing it on the fender with the other empty bottles.
"Kindly do it yourself, Mr. Moto," the man refused as he insulting Miyagi's Japanese heritage and pulling a ridiculous face; racism was so not cool especially because Miyagi is a great person but people don't see that they just see his race.
Letting out a yell Miyagi suddenly chops the tops of the bottles with a slice of his bare hand causing the two drunken men to jump in shock before quickly remove the bottles and fleeing after getting a stern nod from Miyagi.
My mouth gaped open in surprise as the shorter man climbed into the truck closing the door behind him "How did you do that?" My brother questioned as we both glanced at him in awe, "Don't know. First time."
Slowly looking at my brother as we grab our clothes from the back I couldn't believe what I just saw "Dude he has to be like part superhero or something" I exclaimed to my twin who nodded back eagerly "he's something alright."
Watching Daniel put his pants over his trunks I grinned and pushed him over "Katherine!" he screamed as he hit the ground leaving me in fits of laughing tears as I watched him flail before he hit the floor "What? I'm trying to help you learn balance Daniel-San".
