Standing with Mr. Miyagi, I give Bobby a smile before his match with my brother. I knew that he was a good fighter, so this would be the turning point of whether my twin would continue on or if he'd be leaving the tournament.
My smile dropped slowly into a frown when Bobby walked to the ring reluctantly. "Do what you gotta do, Bobby!" was shouted out as my friend stood on his line, looking awkward. He couldn't even meet our gazes.
He turned back to look after Kreese, who just gave him a firm nod.
Johnny stands behind Kreese, watching him with disappointed eyes. Whatever the Sensei said, it had rubbed my boyfriend the wrong way. I've never seen or heard him say anything wrong about the older man before.
Something was wrong.
Bobby sighed before turning back to face my brother; something was seriously wrong here, the friendly boy had been smiling this whole tournament, and now he looked as if someone was asking him to kill a puppy.
The referee made the two bow to each other before they got into their ready poses. Daniel seemed more confident now than when he first started. As soon as the ref started the match it all happened in slow motion.
Bobby jumped high in the air, appearing to do a flying kick. Daniel brought his hands up to protect his top half, but instead of kicking him, Bobby drops and pushed his foot sharp into the back of my brother's knee.
The full weight of Bobby came down hard on Daniel as a sickening crack rang out around the arena. My brother fell to the ground with a scream, as did our Ma.
"Daniel!" I shouted as Miyagi, and I ran over to help my twin, who was writhing in pain on the floor, his hands cradling his knee as his face turned bright red.
The crowd all sucked in their breaths with a gasp sympathetically feeling Daniel's pain.
Bobby dropped to the ground gripping my brother's Gi screaming, "I'm sorry! I didn't mean it." it took a couple of officials to get him away from Daniel, but even when they did, his begging hadn't stopped.
Pushing him away from Daniel, I leveled him with a glare as Mr. Miyagi took care of my twin "You know I expected that from Dutch or Tommy, hell even Johnny but not you. Never you Bobby Brown".
The older boy's eyes softened sadly as he looked close to tears; his poor decision was really affecting him. "You don't understand Kat, I didn't have a choice."
I knew it wasn't like Bobby at all to hurt Daniel like that; my eyes narrowed on Kreese, who stood stoically as he watched me glare at him "but you still did it," I hissed, pushing away from Bobby, who called my name desperately.
"Bobby Brown of the Cobra Kai has been disqualified for excessive and deliberate contact. Under rule 41-2, Daniel LaRusso has 15 minutes to return to the ring. If he is unable to return, John Lawrence will win by default".
Following the officials, who were carrying Daniel to the locker room, I couldn't help ut feel sad for not only Daniel, who had this chance ripped away from him, but also Bobby, who had obviously been manipulated into doing what he did.
The doctor looked over my brother and deemed him unable to continue. "I'll inform the judges. You did well out there, young man," the man in the white coat told Daniel, patting him on the shoulder as he left.
"Damn it!" My twin cursed, slamming his hand down on the bed he was lying on as both Ali and my mom jump in fright.
"Honey, forget it" Ma tried to soothe Daniel, but I knew he was probably fuming on the inside; I was, and those guys were my friends.
"You were great" I smiled at him genuinely as his hand gripped mine. I hated that this happened to him and that it had to be the most likable Cobra Kai member that did it to him.
"We couldn't be prouder. It was just bad luck," Ma spoke up as the rest of us nodded; we were all really proud of him. He could have walked away before the tournament, but he didn't
He also could have stayed away from the Cobra's, but that was a different argument. Ali huffed from beside me, "You would have won if they hadn't cheated."
I nodded quickly to my brother "yeah, and to think, I totally thought you were going to get your ass kicked in the first round by some nobody, but you beat most of the Cobra Kai."
Everyone in the room slowly turned their heads to face me as I glance at them, confused. "What?".
Our words obviously weren't enough as my brother glanced at us sadly. "Just leave me alone for a minute," he asked softly.
I didn't want to go, but my twin insisted that he just needed some time to think and let it sink in. "We'll be outside" Ma gently grabbed my arm, pulling me outside and back out to the waiting area.
Punching the wall, I walked off down the hall when Ma began to reprimand me; he could have done it. My brother, who had never been that tough, almost beat professional fighters in a tournament.
I began to pace in the empty lobby, "Kat!" I glanced up to see Johnny waving at me desperately. "I just wanted you to know, this wasn't us. I promise you it wasn't".
"Did you at least try to stop him, or do you all blindly follow his orders?" I questioned, giving my boyfriend a dirty look. His face dropped as he looked taken aback. He didn't know that I had figured it all out; Kreese was a manipulative asshole.
I let out a scoff when he didn't try to explain or defend himself any further. "Just leave us alone, Johnny" That sentence was one I never thought I would have to use on him.
Turning to walk away from the blonde, I stopped when his voice called out behind me, "What happened to being together after this? I'm not letting you go that easily".
My jaw tightened at his words as I spun around to face him. "That was before you guys began to fight dirty," I told him, shaking my head in disappointment. "Go back to your tournament, Champ."
