After picking up the donuts, Annabeth headed back to work. She was stuck working a double shift today, meaning that she had asked her father to watch Atalanta. She hoped that was going well, but she could easily imagine her father barking at Atlanta for playing with his model airplanes or messing up the carefully laid out miniature battlefields he had constructed.
Annabeth decided to take her mind off her worries and enjoy a donut. She chose a blueberry cake donut that, oddly enough, was covered in blue icing. She took a cautious bite. It tasted like vanilla. She took another bite and then another and before she knew it, the entire donut was gone. She licked her sticky fingers and got back to working on the blueprint for Katie. She had been working on it for several days and it was nearly finished.
Annabeth kept her desk area sparse so she wouldn't distract herself. She hated clutter. Annabeth felt that cluttered desks led to cluttered minds and she couldn't afford the latter, so she never let her desk become too messy.
When she was finished with the blueprint, Annabeth stood up and took it to the fax machine. She faxed it to Katie and returned to her desk. After setting down the blueprint, she opened up a software program on her laptop and began working on it. She had been working for five hours when her stomach rudely interrupted her productivity.
Annabeth went to the break room, but the only food there was stale bread and butter, so she decided to grab some dinner. Annabeth took the elevator down to the ground level and then walked to a nearby coffee shop that sold wraps, salads, and pastries. She bought a wrap and waited for her food to be prepared.
While she was waiting, she saw the same dark-haired man she had seen earlier at Monsters' Donuts. He ordered a scone and was carrying his plate to a couch when he spotted Annabeth and made a beeline towards her. Annabeth was immediately on guard. With his mischievous smile and sea-green eyes, he was quite dashing, but he also looked like a troublemaker. Annabeth has already been married to one bad boy; she didn't need to get involved with another.
"Hello, princess," he said.
"Don't call me that," Annabeth snapped.
"What should I call you then?" The man asked. "My name is Percy. What's your's."
"I'm nobody," Annabeth said.
"Is that a reference to The Odyssey?" the man asked. "I read that in high school. It was sure something."
Annabeth sniffed. This Percy sucked at flirting. At least Luke has been charming.
"You know what?" Percy said. "You're a wise girl. I'm going to call you Wise Girl until I know your name."
"Like that will ever happen," Annabeth said with a snort.
"One chicken wrap for Annabeth," the barista called.
Annabeth groaned and Percy smirked as she went to pick up her dinner. He waved to her as she left. On the way back to work, Annabeth thought of how annoying that Percy was. She wished he would just leave her alone; she wanted nothing to do with him.
