Leo and Khione were shopping for ice cream. It might have snowed for the third time in a week, but Khione had woken Leo up at 7:00 A.M. and told him she was craving ice cream. Leo had been sleeping more since he quit his job at Pickleman's. It had been two weeks and he still hadn't taken his uniform to the nearest Salvation Army. It lay in his drawer — unwrinkled and untouched.

"Leo, I want mint chocolate chip," Khione said. "And not some fat-free or sugarless kind. I want the actual thing. You wouldn't mind grabbing it for me, would you?"

Leo nodded, pulled out of his thoughts. They were standing in the frozen food aisle and he shivered as he walked down it, searching for the ice cream. There! Next to the popsicles were rows of ice cream. Leo scanned the labels. He would have liked to choose out Minotaur Tracks, but he grabbed a carton of mint chocolate chip and headed back towards Khione.

The coldness of the ice cream carton seeped into Leo's fingers. His hands felt numb and the slippery carton fell from his grip. He bent to pick it up and a warm hand pressed the carton into chest. Leo looked from the soft hand to the person's face. He stifled a gasp as he recognized the pretty, petal-shaped eyes and pink, pouty lips of Calypso. The smell of her flowery perfume was a stark contrast to Khione's sharp, menthol one.

"Leo!" Calypso said. "I haven't seen you in so long. I missed you. How are you doing?"

Leo opened his mouth to speak, but the coldness in his hands must have spread to his vocal cords and frozen them. Suddenly, he heard the clapping of boots against the ground and felt a hand on his back. Nails pierced into his skin as he was yanked to his feet.

"Leo has been great," Khione answered for him. "My boyfriend is glad to be rid of the stress of work."

Leo frowned, but said nothing. The bruises on his stomach and arms were hidden by his hoodie. Calypso was biting her lip and a crease appeared between her brows.

"I thought you enjoyed work," she said, her eyes meeting his.

Leo looked away. He didn't want to give Khione stone-filled snowballs to throw at him later. Khione was smiling and her teeth were even whiter than her whipped cream-colored skin, but her nails still pricked Leo's skin like sharp icicles. She looked like a snow angel and Leo wished he had never decided to lay down with her.

"Leo is good at hiding his true feelings," Khione said icily. "Goodbye, Callie."

She turned and strutted away. Leo followed her and though he didn't look back, he could feel Calypso's eyes resting on him.

"How dare you?" Khione whispered when they got home. "I'm the one who supports us. I'm the one keeping us financially afloat and you go around a flirt with every woman in sight."

     "Khione, I never—" Leo began.

"Don't lie to me," Khione growled, stepping towards him.

He flinched. He opened his mouth and then closed it. There was no use fighting ice with ice. Khione stepped forward and yanked his chin upwards with one hand. She leaned forward and planted a possessive kiss on his lips.

     "You're mine," she said.

Leo felt as if his heart had been replaced with a lump of ice. She was right. He was Khione's.
