finding out things

Quick recap: 

And this is how I found myself at 1:15 am, on a cold Saturday morning in the company of a girl, her dog, and a dead cat.

Back to present:

I promise you all that I haven't done anything wrong or committed an atrocious crime. 

I was walking back to my lowkey-shady apartment when I saw it. A lump of what seemed to be fur, blood, and dirt. I grabbed my bag and slowly moved closer to it.

After getting closer to it, I finally realized the "lump" was actually a cat. A baby one at that. Just as I was about to grab it and take the poor thing to a hospital, I heard a gasp and a yell, 

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?

I was immediately shoved to the side and this girl took the kitten and ran. I didn't know what to do so I grabbed my bag and rushed after her.

After following her for a couple of blocks, we make it to a Veterinary Hospital. She stops for a short moment to catch her breath but notices me and rushes inside before I can say a thing to her. 

I quickly follow her inside and see people already rushing to help the poor kitten. I sigh in relief and take a seat to calm down. The girl quickly tells them something and sends an accusatory look my way. Thinking that she has the wrong idea. I walk over to where she and the receptionist are talking. 

"Hey"

"What do you want" She says flatly.

I give an awkward smile. "I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out back there. When I saw the state the kitten was in, I froze."

The girl and the receptionist both looked confused. 

"What do you mean? I thought you were the one that left it like that?"

I look at them and tell them about how I found it when I was on my way home. 

The girl looks down sad and I believe ashamed of having accused someone of doing something so horrible. I tell her that it's okay. Anyone would have come to that conclusion, especially since I was wearing all black and my hoodie could cover my face.

After a while, a nurse came out and took us to a separate room. The second we entered the room, I knew something was wrong. The grim look on the doctor's face only confirmed by suspicions. 

I turn away and begin to tear up because of the poor life this precious animal had. The girl begins to sob next to me and rushes out of the room. 

I wipe my tears and begin to ask the doctor about the poor kitten. He says that the kitten unfortunately was already not breathing and without a heartbeat when we brought him in. My eyes begin to well up with tears at the mention of this. I try to hold them back and ask the doctor if there was anyway we could figure out if the kitten had an owner or who did this to it. 

The doctor says that fortunately, the kitten's chip was not cracked during the incident; however, the messages and calls are not going through to the owner. 

He says that they are suspecting something but will not say anything for sure until the truth has come to light properly. While he says this, the girl comes back into the room.

The doctor stands and gives us a strong handshake and a pat on the back. He says that they are notifying the police of the incident and will try to let the girl and I know of what's going on with the investigation if we come back in a week or two. 

The girl and I head out and sit at a bus stop close by. We both stay quiet for a while. By now it's already mid-day, and we are both feeling quite tired. After a while, she finally turns to me and starts talking about...

I'm quite bad at writing so I didn't want to write and show people my writing but a friend told me about wattpad and so I thought, maybe someone might like it or give me feedback?
