"Inna?"
A little sand-white coloured cub opened her eyes. "Mum?" She had heard that word many times before while her eyes were shut, and she couldn't wait to use it. It seemed to speak of warmth, though the only warmth she could find was the warmth on the left of her, where her siblings rested.
"Yes, Inna?" She looked at her cub with pride, but then laid back down. "Go back to sleep," she said in a dismissive yet soft voice. She would not be angry at her cub the first day she opened her eyes. Inna was the last one to do so out of her siblings.
While Inna's siblings slept, she was wide awake, with the will to explore. A inquisitive cub, for the good and for the bad. Hopefully her curiosity was for the better of her, and wouldn't land her in a whole heap of trouble one day.
"But I'm not tired! I want to explore." Her mother shook her head and licked Inna's ear in tiredness. "Your siblings are fast asleep, as you should be too. Tomorrow you can explore, but for now, rest."
Inna let out a huff of impatience. How dare her Mum tell her what to do? She was the boss of herself, as far as Inna knew.
Her mother had laid back down and her eyes were shut. She was probably asleep. I'm not waiting for tomorrow. My siblings are most definitely lazy. Why wouldn't you want to explore?
As Inna tried to creep out of the den, she saw something move across the forest. It was black, with seeming two spike-like things sticking out of its head. It bobbed up and down as it walked, and it was chewing on something orange? Inna gasped. What could that orange thing be? It was scary, for sure!
She let out a quiet wail, and blundered back inside the den where warmth and safety was, and as far as Inna cared, she would never go outside again! Whatever that was, it's really creepy!
Inna pressed her body to the far side of the den, and shivered in fear, for whatever that was, it was bigger than her. Naturally, as a cub, she would be afraid.
Her mother sniffed the air and opened her eyes. "Inna, what are you doing? You are supposed to be sleeping!" Inna's Mum had promised herself she wouldn't get angry at her newborn cub, but she had crossed the line!
Inna cried dramatically and buried her head in her mother's fur. "I saw something big, black, two black spikes on its head, and it was eating something orange! What could it be but a monster?"
Her mother let out a quiet laugh, for she did not want to wake Inna's siblings.
"Inna, that was a rabbit! We eat them!" Inna's Mum sighed in impatience, and pointed to her other siblings. Why had she mistaken a "monster" for a rabbit? Of all the harmless creatures! She would rather it be a fox, but then it would pose some real danger, and she would probably never see another day.
Inna was cross at herself, but she would let her body get some rest, though only this time. She was starting to drift off, but she still thought some things, weird and curious things.
If I was scared of a rabbit, what will happen to me once I face real danger?
