The What and the Why

Inna opened her eyes. She noticed that the sky was was black and the moon and stars were shining bright. Great, I had to wake up in the middle of the night.

As Inna looked around, she saw that her siblings were still sleeping. Lucky. She also noticed that some warmth was gone. Something was missing. Mum!

Inna stood up and ventured out of the cave. The exact same thing had happened three nights ago. But, then again, Inna wasn't scared of rabbits anymore. She laughed silently, almost a whisper.

Then Inna saw her mother walking towards a tower of rock. Inna followed, keenly. "Mum, what are you doing?" Her mother didn't respond, but instead let out a quiet meow. What in the world is she doing?

Inna followed her mother carefully. The patches of overgrown grass slowed her down, but she waddled through them, keeping up with her Mum barely.

Inna watched as her mother walked up the slightly sloped side of the rock, climbing to the top of it. Inna meowed pitifully. She felt helpless, for once. Inna's Mum walked down the slope carefully  and picked up Inna by the scruff.

Mum, you know I hate you picking me up like that! Inna let out a wail of objection, but her Mum ignored it.

She put Inna down when they were both at the top of the rock. When Inna tried to stand up and walk away, she sat Inna down again.

But then, something magical happened. A star floated down from the sky and hovered just above Inna. She tried to touch the star, but it was too high up. Oh, wow. I am lucky to see this. My siblings won't. I actually feel sorry for them now.

Eventually, the star floated back up to the sky, and Inna and her Mum walked away back to the den.

Once she had laid down and relaxed, feeling the familiar warmth, she wondered, what will tomorrow hold?
