In the months that passed, Bruce became more and more withdrawn, until he barely ever left his room, moving the alcohol cabinet in there so he didn't even have to go into the kitchen. Today was one of the rare occasions in which he did.
"Dad?"
There came no reply.
"Dad? You're up!"
Bruce came out of his room, a glass of gin in hand, looked utterly disheveled with his matted black curls and dressing gown. He merely made a small noise of affirmation as a reply.
"Dad." came again the persistent voice of his son, "You can't stay like this forever, Dad. I know what he did to you, but maybe you should get his point of view?"
"No. I don't need some bullshit excuse. I know what I saw, the evidence of my own eyes is enough."
"I called him. Set up a meeting."
"You WHAT? I TOLD YOU AFTER HE LEFT WE WERE NEVER TALKING TO HIM AGAIN! HOW COULD YOU BETRAY ME LIKE THIS?"
"Dad, it might even be good for you. Please just think about it?"
"SHUT UP. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. GO."
"Okay. If you change your mind, it's at 10:00am tomorrow at City Coffee."
Dick retreated out of the room, a defeated and worn expression ageing his young face. Bruce sunk into a chair, head in his hands. What he really needed now, he thought, was a whisky.
